Update on Mateo's CCL Tear Issue

So sorry about his diagnosis, but wow he sure looks happy, and many dogs recover and live a normal life even with a full tear. They have amazing bodies and can rebuild that joint to work for them.

Thanks for the encouragement, Mike-- I have also talked to, and read about, dogs with full tears recovering without surgery. Time will tell, but I am hopeful. We are going to give it our best shot.

I am so glad he is feeling better:) His face while in the water is priceless

Thanks, mcarrel- he was cracking me up with his smiles. :)

Good luck to Mateo getting better without surgery. I would have loved to have had access to a water treadmill when Kryten was in recovery.

Thanks, Smokeycat. Pre-op/post-op, and just general physical therapy-wise, water therapy is really helpful.

I have a friend whose lab was rehabilitated without surgery for a CCL tear, and she used lots of water in his treatment. Of course, it didn't hurt that she lived on the coast of Florida, on the beach, and also had her own swimming pool...

Aunt CR has her own pool, just saying. :)

Hang in there that boy is gonna be good as new soon enough. Healing thoughts coming your way. Smooch that handsome beast for me.

You're killing me, CR, LOL. Hey, you may just end up with Mateo AND me showing up on your doorstep, flippers and swimsuits in hand. :biggrin2:

Meanwhile, we accept any and all healing thoughts- they do help a lot. And the big, red beast is laying right next to me at the moment, snoring away, and has officially been smooched for Miss CR. :)

Wish we had such a facility close by.
Hope it works well for him.
Our older lab has had a great life
with a full tear. Never regretted not going surgical.

That's good to hear, P of V. How long did it take your Lab to recover and heal?

Thanks, rip! I am grateful to have found this place; it will give him the best possible chance, I believe, for a strong recovery without surgery.

I love his squish-face, too. :)

CeeCee- I do believe it will help...even though I am not expecting miracles, it's his best shot without going under the knife...

And he does like it! I can't wait until he is ready for the free swim therapy; maybe in a couple of weeks. :)

Thank you, gilles. I am hearing more and more stories of success (human and dogs) without surgery...gives me hope, for sure. :)

And, yes-- we will stay focused, be patient and build up his strength, balance and muscles!

How is Mateo doing? Has he gone for anymore hydrotherapy sessions?

Yep- we went for the 2nd session yesterday (I signed him up for a 10 week treatment package.) The whole staff seems really committed to his care, and makes adjustments during the hour based on how he is doing, plus they follow up via email and are available for phone consults; really great people there!

For example, if he is limping a little more than usual, they will spend much more time in the warm pool, just massaging him, with some light treadmill work. Also more cold-laser therapy than usual in place of doing some physical therapy exercises with him. The next day, he always seems much improved, so I believe we are on the right track.

We are getting there, I believe...slowly but surely.

I am very happy to have found this water therapy place...not cheap, but worth it.

That's a great update! That's amazing that the staff are so passionate and dedicated to the level of care they provide!

I've never really heard of cold laser therapy before. What does it entail and what are the benefits!
