Friends of Homeless Animals (http://www.foha.org) has two wonderful Mastiffs for adoption. Interested parties should please visit the website for instructions on adopting. :)

Charlie is a very sweet older boy (estimated at 5, but I think he may be 7 or 8) who was found as a stray and pulled from Prince George's County Animal Control in MD when his time was up. Charlie loves attention from people of all ages, and seems to be ok with other dogs. Charlie does have special needs, he suffered some sort of event which may have been a stroke type thing (the vet wasn't sure), but he has mostly recovered. Because of this Charlie gets tired easily on walks and his condition will need to be monitored. What Charlie prefers is to be a couch potato and soak up all the love he can!

Maybe its a face only a mother could love, but I think he's adorable. <3

Meet Sonar! He is a young male mastiff looking for that special someone who can handle his special needs - he is blind. We think he may be able to see some movement or shadows, but nothing beyond that! Sonar was surrendered by his owner to Prince George's County Animal Control in MD where he was pulled when his time was up. Sonar was kept in the back yard in a privacy fence 24/7 because they said he "couldn't be housetrained". Sonar lived with a yorkie and children and did fine with them. I would, however, hesitate to place him with small children. Kids he grew up with from a puppy and new children are different things, you know? Plus being a young male with little training he can be a little rowdy at times, and being blind a small child might accidentally be squished! Sonar knows sit, takes treats nicely, walks well on leash (although you have to help him watch out for stuff he could bonk his head on) and is really just a great big suck.

Ohmygod the "Please adopt me" pic is making me weepy. I'm not anywhere in the vicinity and couldn't take another giant in the house anyway but they both look like such sweethearts! Oscar sees just fine and STILL clonks his noggin', can't be much different from a blind(ish) dog.

The first one is cute but the blind one is beautiful. If circumstances were diffrent and closer, I would love to have that one. I hope they find good homes

D'oh!
I'm in the wrong Country!:(
I would take sonar if I could, and Charlie, too, if they are OK with each other.

Update: Charlie has been adopted! :D

Sonar is still looking for that special someone. Adopters have looked at him, including one couple with another dog, but Sonar turned out not to be a good fit. We discovered that Sonar is really uncomfortable being approached by other dogs, perhaps due to his blindness, so it might best to place him as an only dog.

I can understand a blind dog being a little tense around other dogs, especially in a new situation, after he spent most of his life outside. It's a shame; we have TONS of experience with blind dogs. But I think Ruby's enthusiasm would be a little too much for him...I'll certainly pass the word on, though. He looks like a real cutey.

The rescue he's with has a facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/foha.org however Sonar himself does not have his own page. It's funny, any human can run up to him willy nilly and pet him and he'll just be like "oh there's someone there?" *Sniffs person, accepts pets, moves on with life* and he's ok with lots of stuff going on around him, other dogs walking around, but if the dogs come up close to him, he becomes very uncomfortable and snarks at them. I really don't think he wants to fight with other dogs, he just wants them to go away.
