Training your puppy for social situations ?

Hey everyone

Im curious how you go about training your dog for social situations.... IE... car shows, side walk events, small fairs....etc.

Even if you have a few people over... I need her to be able to get her attention and settle her down with out making a scene or having to chase her down !

Whenever we are in these scenarios..... its like her ears shut off and she doesnt hear a WORD I say !!!

It may be "cheating", but before we go anywhere I take Oscar on a long-ish walk to settle his nerves and get the tickle out of his feet (also gives him ample time to relieve himself so we don't get out of the car and immediately have to find a shrub). That way he's less likely to be exploding with energy when we get somewhere he has to behave. It's a lot easier to get his attention and make him mind his manners when he's already worked for the day. I'd say run a command refresher before going out ... a good run of Sit, Down, etc. will make sure it's fresh in her mind when it counts.

We take them as many places as possible as young as possible.
Our pup gets really cranky when she is tired, like a child, she acts out more.
When I am going some place that I know will have a ton of distractions I always have her FAV treat in my pocket (beef heart roasted with a ton of garlic cut into tiny morsels). Before we enter the scenario, I get her to focus on me and we do a little training, usually a stand, down, sit, stand then place she gets her treat and away we go. If she gets to distracted and stops listening, I will give her the scent of the treat and we will do another short (like 30 seconds to a minute) of training until she is focused again and then we are good.
I had a rescue wolf x husky that I fostered years ago, before we went ANYWHERE she went for a run, a long hard run lmao. That was the only way to get her to focus in social situations, tire her out first.
