Such a sweet face and lovely girl:) I love the gray on muzzles.
I know! I love senior animals. They look like they've got stories to tell. Tashie is such a good girl, too. She is just so happy to be loved and to snuggle on the couch... And romp around outside like a maniac hahaha

Much agree. Tashie sounds a lot like Chica(who we call mama). Have you had her since puppyhood?

We've actually only had her since August. We know next to nothing about her history. I know she was with man and woman, who I assume were on some type of government assistance. They stopped receiving their cheques and subsequently stopped feeding her (which makes no sense to me because food banks give out dog food). Ultimately, they were given the choice to hand Tashie over to my friend Bonnie (she trains animals for movies and is involved in rescue), or the SPCA would seize the dog. They decided to hand Tashie over to Bonnie, which was supposed to be a temporary thing. Bonnie said that she could see every vertebrae and rib. She fattened Tashie up and used her in the new movie, Monster Truck (Nickalodian (sp?) film, I think). A number of people inquired about Tashie, but none were good fits. She isn't good with children (was reported that nipped/bit at a child), kills cats and no one is sure about how she is with small dogs.
Tashie was unable to live in Bonnie's house because she didn't get along with Bonnie's monkeys. So, she lived outside in a kennel and just wasn't receiving the love that she needed through no fault of anyone. Bonnie did her best, but has monkeys, lemurs, wolves, dogs etc... Not to mention, training dogs and wild animals for movies (she just finished training 2 foxes... omg, were they ever cute!)

I can say now from experience that I do not think that Tashie nipped or bit the child. When she gets excited, she can be mouthy, but is EXTREMELY gentle. When I come home from work, she charges at me, gets a bit jumpy and sometimes my hand lands in her mouth. She is in no way trying to nip or bite me though. I think she was probably just excited and the people that took her for a trial run weekend interpreted her behaviour differently. Better safe than sorry though when there is a house full of children that she would have to coexist with.

So, we took her for a trial weekend and she just fit in perfectly. She is so happy with us and gets as much love and attention as she can handle. She's in her retirement years... So, I honestly don't demand too much from her other than basic manners. She sleeps on the bed. Hangs out on the couch. Goes out in the yard everyday for a good play with Angus. Eats a balanced raw diet. She's just living the dream now. We all love her (except Thalia, but we all knew that would happen). I figured, why not let her live out the last leg of her life with us? She deserves it and she just fits in with us.

That is so awesome!

Same here with Chica. Though we are assuming cancer at this point we will make her last months/years, whatever we are fortunate enough to get, the best. She came from living under a trailer after not being able to carry a litter anymore. Underweight, infected tumors, ticks, fleas, skin infections, yeast and so much more. We did all the tests/procedures our vet could offer and decided to keep her very comfortable for the rest of her time. She now sleeps on the bed, is loved on by everyone(but especially me and my 4 yr old) fed a good raw diet drowned with lots of hugs, kisses and treats. The older ones still have so much love to give and I believe they are super appreciative of their new lives. After all, they know what it could be. I sometimes wonder if she ever tells my other two what brats they are to not;) lol

I think it's a really special thing to be able to take a senior dog and ensure that their last months/years are the best. So many people overlook these dogs because they're old and not a cute cuddly puppy. I feel very grateful and fortunate to be able to give that to Tashie, even though we'll undoubtedly have to deal with the heartbreak of losing her a lot sooner than most people will with their dogs. That's ok because it's not about me, it's about her and her quality of life.
Poor, Chica! It sounds like she's very lucky to have found you. I wish our dogs could talk sometimes... I would love to hear their stories of where they came from and where they've been in their lives.

I actually find seniors with lots of gray adorable:) something about their eyes when they look at you. And boy would I love to hear their stories! My Jack's take on their lives, what Chica has endured and any other senior dog. Kinda like hearing the stories from older generations and all that they've seen.

She is just beautiful. What a wonderful thing you are doing for her. I have always said that when the time comes that I no longer have my boys (I can't stand the thought) that I will put all of my time and energy into saving the old "folks" that so many people pass by because they want a puppy. I love the gray faces and it looks like she is one happy girl.

OMG, I looooove Tashie's eyes. She gives me this certain look and I just melt and have to smother her with love. I'll have to try to get a picture of "the look" sometime! hahah

This isn't the look I was referring to, but it's such a cute and grumpy look!

I've been working to teach Tashie that frisbees are fun. She got pretty excited and starting bouncing around.. She took a bit of a tumble here.
