Tali ate a bug...I think

Last November, Tali went out for a quick tiddle one morning, and five minutes later, came back in all swollen and full of hives. In November where we live, most of the bugs are gone...so my best guess is a wasp. Now that summer is back, so are the bugs, and I'm a little worried. Anyone else ever seen a reaction like that? Do you know what caused it with your dog?

Probably a bee sting.
That happened to a springer spaniel I had once ended up at ER vet
Did you give Benadryl?

Is she better? Poor girl! I'd def keep benadryl on hand for when that happens. If dogs are anything like humans, subsequent allergic reactions to the same thing can be more severe. Benadryl 1mg/pound immediately. I had a rot/lab x and he used to eat wasps. Terrible! Benadryl liquid absorbs faster...

Benadryl . that can restrict an air way, mine tried to eat a black widow and it was not good. vet is a wise choice

Oh yes she's all better now. The first pic was her at the vet's office -went directly there as soon as it happened, and it's just around the corner. Pic 2 was about an hour after treatment, which was a great improvement over both eyes being swelled nearly completely shut. It took about three days for her to look normal. We keep Benadryl on hand for sure, though she needed an injection for this occurrence as she would not have been able to take a pill. No poison spiders here that I know of...though still could be a spider bite allergy I guess. Wasps are highly suspect, for sure. Here's her from the other day.

Poor baby!

Denna blew up like that when we were out camping a year and a half ago... I think she stuffed her head in some nettles at the side of the trail... but it could have been a bug. Benadryl and a day or 2 of rest did the trick for her.

Sadie swells up like that if she gets stung. Do you have Goldenrod on your property? There is a spider which blends into the flowers and lives on the plant. Some dogs love to eat the flowers (mine included) and the bite from the spider causes my dogs face to blow up.

Spiders are also on list of suspects now. Happily no nettles or goldenrod in the back yard as I'm allergic to those too. It's quite helpful to hear what has caused this in other dogs, thanks folks! November in my part of the planet you're more likely to be at risk from frostbite than a bug bite!

Thanks for sharing! We get wasps in our area too (it's a constant battle) and now that Diesel likes to attack and try to eat flying bugs it's something I will be on high alert about.

I am so glad that Tali is feeling better now. :)

Wasp season is back in my part of the world. I hope Tali won't be eating anymore of them.

And I also can't seem to find how to start a new thread anymore. I'm usually fairly savvy, but doh!
