Many of you know we lost Magee a few months ago. She was almost 10, blind, with diabetes. She was diagnosed with diabetes over 4 years ago, & we managed her illness very well. Then she went blind from glaucoma, almost overnight. Today, we got a call from the bullmastiff rescue. There's a female bullmastiff looking for a foster home. The vet said she's 10 if she's a day; probably been bred multiple times. She's skin & bones. BTW that happens with diabetic dogs; their pancreas shuts down & they just don't process food properly. Pancreatic enzymes help a lot. We thought, we can't take on a dog like this again so soon. The cost of meds; the constant vigil to make sure they don't get hurt; what if Ruby & Bella decide they don't want her around? Melissa, from bm rescue, said she's currently in a foster home with 13 other dogs, & gets along with all of them. And bm rescue would cover the costs of her meds, including all eye meds, if the diagnosis is glaucoma (I'm betting it is). I'm in the middle of trying to get a new job with a guide dog organization here.
Then we thought, if anyone in THE WORLD should take this dog, it should be us. Magee was not my first blind dog; I've dealt with them over & over. We're going Friday to visit her, take her to the vet. She's coming to our house Saturday.
Even if Ruby & Bella decide she's an intruder, we can work around it. She has to be with us. Period. So give a good thought for us; & the new girl.
