I know it takes a while & it's a trial & error thing. Zeela is such a particular eater. I get it that she eats when she is hungry & I may have spoiled her with many chew treats, however, I rather her chew the treats than everything in our home. She ate grass today & threw up. Not sure why? I just want to make sure her diet is working for her. I think it is....am I being a worry wart???

Well, she gets dry food, the lamb & rice combo from Nutro, I mix it sometimes with a little wet food, The Taste of the Wild. she gets Smart stiks for treats. Once in a while, I give her a little milk, she loves milk. Yesterday, I had made some beef & I gave her a little with her dry food. she's been really good as far as not throwing up, her stool has been solid. she eats only in small portions otherwise she eats too fast & throws up.

Zeela eats better than me ;)...
If in doubt cut everything but the dry food for a week and see how she handles it.

Zeela eats better than me too...;) I will try it, however, if she doesn't like what she is getting to eat, she tries to eat everything in the yard.

Maybe a splash of beef stock on the kibble. Might make it more palatable.

You would think, I already tried that. This girl is way too smart & way too picky. I just ordered more coconut oil, I ran out a while ago. I can put a little bit of that on her dry food.
The bottom line is if I stop spoiling her, when she gets hungry, she's got to eat??? No??? ;)

Well, at least I know she is growing, she's gotten a little bigger from what people tell me when they see her, but she's lean & her coat is shiny. Her head seems to grow the most, she had a 22" collar that can no longer fit around her head, her neck yes, her head is bigger than mine & most people I know. Lol... her tongue is bigger than my hand.

Sounds like she's healthy. And her coat is very shiny and pretty. I wouldn't worry about occasional puking. Only if it's frequent.

Adding some fish (salmon) oil to the meals has helped. It makes it more interesting and comes with all the Omega 3 benefits on top of it. From time to time we add some fruit or vegetables on top. I‘ve also used boiled beef heart or ground beef by adding it to the kibble. It shouldn‘t be done daily and only in small amounts to keep the diet balanced.

I think I figured out why she threw up. I had a bag of grapes & I think a few fell out on the floor & she might of eaten a few.

my corso is super picky as well! She turns her nose to pretty much everything! Healthy physically, but not upstairs!!! We also spoiled her and it backfired big time.... went through so many bags of stuff and cooked meat and toppings and you name it..... she would eat something new for a few days then wall way from it.... this is day 2 of putting down kibble and not a touch from her..... she will learn that that is the only thing she get nd dogs won't starve themselves.... So now we just put down earthborn holistic kibble sprinkled with nupro and powdered peanut butter and she will eat when she is hungry..... not going to put the effort in crazy preparations if she does not eat them...... keep it simple

Yes, once you spoil them, it is hard to get them to eat just dry food. I do mix it with some wet & it she does it eat it & in a small bowl a few times a day. I do notice the more energy she uses up, the hungrier she gets & eats good. I am guilty of giving her pizza crust sometimes.

Both of my dogs are not picky. However, Cerberus, our standard poodle was extremely picky and we always worried about him because he was so thin. He would get bored with a food and we would have to switch brands. The one thing that helped get him to eat his actual food was this product we got from our dog trainer. It was real beef sprinkles (dry). You just sprinkle it over the dry food like it was seasoning. And then he would eat the dry food. He loved that beef sprinkle stuff. Luckily he didn't have the allergies that Diesel has otherwise his pickyness would have been more of a nightmare than it was.

I don't remember what brand we were using. But it was something similar to this: https://crumps.ca/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/en/crumpsb2c/products/liver-sprinkles-dog-food

I sometimes give my dogs little treats from what I am eating but I am very particular to make sure it is something healthy for them (carrots, banana, blueberries... sometimes cheese). If we have boiled chicken we always give them some of that (the boiled chicken doesn't bug them just the processed chicken that comes in dog food).

Mine aren't picky and still eat grass better than most cows. All are a good weight and I likely check blood more often than the average home and all has always been well.

My mastiff is not picky at all but still grazes like a cow. My other dog however can be horrible when it comes to food. He will randomly decide that he will not eat his food, it may be something he loved yesterday but today he won't touch it. Turns out this is as common in Irish Setters as chicken sensitivity in mastiffs. When he gets like this adding something MAY get him to eat but not likely. He has been on a "I don't want that" kick for the past 3 weeks. I've managed to get him to eat enough that hasn't quite burned off the extra 5 lbs he put on during the winter but it has been a fight every time he gets fed. We've just about finished this bag so he does get a new food soon, hopefully it kickstarts his desire to eat his food again.
Just be careful when using "they'll eat when they get hungry" plan because not all dogs will eat their dog food no matter how hungry they are if they don't want that food. Jiggers taught me that.

The grazing like a cow is Kahlua! Drives me mad.

And the randomly deciding he doesnt like a food he loved yesterday was my Cerberus. We always caved with him and had several foods to rotate and sprinkles to add as toppers as well other tidbits to entice him to eat

Normally I wouldn't go this long without changing foods but he has occasionally decided to eat a meal without issue and is still not too skinny. Also with him changing foods might not snap him out of it. And toppers can get the same treatment as food does. So frustrating.
