We could use your thoughts and prayers again. Ruger has an appointment for a follow up to his second surgery today and has developed a "pocket" at the incision site again. There is a slim chance that it is fluid that built up and just needs drained but a better chance that once again his interior stitches didn't hold. I am scared to death that he is going to have to have surgery again. My vet says that if it is indeed the same thing, Ruger will need to see a specialist. The idea of putting him under for yet another surgery has me a complete mess. Sounds like the specialist he has in mind is in Pensacola which is more than two hours away. I will call them after his appointment today if it turns out that he will need to see them. This has been such an awful experience and it is made worse by the fact that Ruger is not stranger friendly and has to be sedated every time he goes in to be seen. Not to mention financially devastating.Of course, I will do anything that needs to be done for my boy but I sure will be glad when this is finally behind us. Again, if you can take a minute to say a prayer, or send good thoughts and vibes....it would be greatly appreciated. I am just a mess! I am scared to death that I am going to lose my best friend.

Thank you. We all prefer the muzzle bumps around here to kisses anyway. I am just a nervous wreck. Every part of me wants to go today and hear that it is fluid build up but.......

Thank You so much. I am hoping for good news as well but not hopeful as it seems to be exactly like it was last time. :-(

Cash, Carly and I wish you both the best, both with the followup appointment and with the eventual outcome. 3 years ago, my doodle, Cash had 3 subsequent surgeries for a shredded cruciate and he's 80 lbs. I, like you, was very afraid of losing him to so much anesthetic, but 3 years later, he's still here. I'm not sure what Ruger's original diagnosis was, but sometimes you've just got to put your faith in knowing that you're getting him the best help you can. As far as cost goes, 2012 was a $5500 year for him. Best money I ever spent. We're all pulling for you...

This all started with a blockage (A piece of toy lodged in his esophagus) and he had emergency surgery to remove it, about 9 days later he developed a "pocket" under the incision spot and we thought it might be fluid that needed drained but when I took him in they realized that the interior stitches had given way so he required another surgery to fix this. He had that surgery last Tuesday (9 days ago) and has developed another pocket in the same place. He has been on restricted activity since the first surgery and I have been sleeping on the dog bed with him every night, he is only outside to go to the bathroom and he is on a leash so no activity that should be causing this complication since all he physically does is walk, stretch and shit so no one is sure why this is happening. I am hoping that the pocket this time is merely fluid that can be drained and we are good to go but I don't have a good feeling about it. We passed 5500 some time ago but there is no limit to what I would do or spend to make him better which is why it was the last concern listed. First and foremost is the fear of losing him as he is put under over and over again and last is the money. But it does still exist. LOL Thank you for you thoughts, they are appreciated. Maybe all of these positive and healing thoughts will find me at the vets simply draining fluid not making an appointment with a specialist to do it all again.
