The wife & I had been talking about fostering from Southern States Mastiff Rescue for a while. Week before last we ran across the opportunity to foster Harmony a said to be 4 year old brindle female EM.

She was brought into a shelter in south Al, with her companion Beethoven assumed to be 4/5ish male EM. They were said to be wondering in the woods for some time.. they appear to have been through a lot but are both extremely sweet & well mannered.

We took the hour & half drive to pick them up not really knowing much about them. On the way back we stopped by a local pet supply store to run them through the "doggy car wash" (big bath stalls for dogs, that you can use). They both were well mannered even while I gave them a bath, not sure they'd seen many baths in the recent years.

Beethoven will be fostered (to possibly adopt) by another local SSMR volunteer family, they picked him up after his bath (they are close by so we are going to try some play dates).

We headed to a park near our house to introduce Harmony to her other two bothers.. we wanted to insure we did this on common ground rather than bring her straight into the house. Everyone seemed to mesh well, she's been used to breed pups it appears so she's a little cautious of males.. but she seems to be opening up to our two guys.

She is heart worm positive and thin but we will start the process of treatment & loving the heck out of her. We are looking forward to this adventure, finding Harmony a loving & responsible home.

& yes you know I had to make a video, & yes that's almost 200lbs of Mastiff in a Honda Accord :p

You & your wife are amazing people. I love how she looked out the window in the video like she was thinking, "finally". So glad these babies will be in warm homes for Christmas & be well on their way to recovery. :)

She is a heart steal'er that's for sure, she laid with my wife while she was getting ready this morning in the bathroom and didn't leave her side. She's already everything you could want from a temperament stand point.

Thankfully she is non-symptomatic and will go through a safe slow-kill protocol for treatment for heart worms.

This picture is not the best but it captured a pretty cool moment, she had her head on his back for a good part of the ride back..

LOL @ raechiemay, I'd love to keep her but I have also fallen in love with this breed. At this point we plan to keep fostering & to do that we need the room.. I believe in truly spending quality time with our pups & more than 3 at a time is just a lot of work (this is a nice way of saying I like to be lazy at times).

Ditto @ Dennas Mom, I was expecting them to be a handful. She will need some follow up on o/b training but that will come way later, right now it's just time to love on her.. get her weight up and take care of the heartworms.

What a couple of beautiful puppies!!
I love how calm they were in the car in the video.

I understand that. I swear with D going through her "jackass phase" right now & my little dog being a rotten diva, I don't foresee an acceptable time to add a Corso to the mix anytime in the near future. I'd still love to have one, but maybe when (I'm going to sound awful for saying this) one dog goes or I get married & I don't think either is happening anytime soon!! Lol

Ahh come on, get 2 of them! You can handle it, everyone needs a challenge in life.

I'm thankful for my wife, she's bigger dog lover than I am and keeps me in check! Having 4 hands instead of 2 helps when you have 12 legs to deal with.
