Just picked up my poor boy from his crop / dock appt. He is so confused and miserable and I've never felt so bad about anything in my life :(

Anybody have any advice on how to minimize his discomfort over the next 10 days other than the obvious that the vet already told me ?

I know that I wanted a classic CC look and I read and read before I made the appt, but damn do I feel like a bad person right now.

He will be back to his old self in no time. Give him some extra loving now but be gentle around his wounds.

Your boy Is just feeling the effects of the anesthesia. He'll be back to 100% in the morning.

A good Cane Corso thread would be to post up photos of the ear cropping forms. Someone that has one of our pups used a vet that uses one size of forms. His 9 week old pup had a form on her head that fits Great Dane. It was nearly as tall as she was. LOL

I agree with above post s when I had mine done the vet told me to have him take it easy the next day he was his old puppy self running around a million miles an hour that pic reminds me of when Judah's was done same cup head look :)

It's a little hard to tell with the cup still on there, but it looks like the shape is what i was looking for. And your right, he's much better today. I wouldnt say he's back to his old self. He doesn't have any interest in playing and he's a bit lethargic, but seems clearer mentally anyway

His expression in this pic pretty much sums it. Like "and you somehow thought this was a good idea?"

Hard not to laugh at him in all his ridiculousness. Has anybody ever seen a CC with cropped ears and tail intact? Not that it matters at this point, but I'm still feeling remorseful of doing the tail as well. I feel as though the ear crop doesn't inhibit his quality of life at all, but the tail dock removes some communication ability and balance. I wanted to do one and not the other but it seems like it's an all or nothing sort of deal. Just curious at this point since I clearly already made my decision

Did you just have the tail docked when you did the ears? Usually tails are done when they are 3 days old since it's not as painful. I'm sure the tail is sore, why did you wait so long? I haven't seen a CC with cropped ears and an intact tail. Usually people do crop/dock or nothing.

I brought him home from italy 2 weeks ago. It's illegal over there so they don't do it. My vet suggested doing once and for all since he was going under anesthesia for the ears and I went with it

Correction, 3 weeks ago. It took me this long to find a vet willing and get an appointment with said vet

Surprisingly, the tail doesn't seem to bother him at all. He wants to kick it from time to time but it seems to not be causing him much discomfort. Then again maybe it'd because he's so focused on the cup on his head that he wants off in a bad way

You shouldn't feel bad, he will be just fine. When i had Titan's ears cropped he was loopy(from the anethesia) the first day, seemed a little tired the 2nd morning and by the end of the 2nd day he was right back to his crazy hyper self!! LOL His tail was docked at 3 days old.

Hi all. So today, day 3 after the crop, Capo knocked the cup off of one side of his head and then shook his head violently while it was still taped to one ear. The weight of the cup and the shaking bent his ear back and forth. After a lot of yelping and crying, I was able to get the tape peeled of the other ear which was really stuck on there. I squirted it with peroxide and pulled it off like a bandaid because gentle wasn't getting it done. The result is one ear standing up properly and the one that was 'damaged' is creased and lying on top of his head. My vet is quite a distance away so I was going to head there in the morning to get the cup retaped on. I would do it myself and have tried, but he just isn't having it. Even with 2 of my buddies holding him down, he goes berserk. I'm afraid that another cup will suffer the same fate, so my question to the forum experts is should I just leave them as they are until it's time to take the stitches out, and then worry about correcting the crease and massaging the ears in place or should I get another cup put on? I was told I could also tape the ears across the top of his head but I feel that would just reinforce the flop I want corrected. Breath Right strips seemed like a good idea but I tried that today and they are just going to stick with the current state of the ears, swollen, creased, sensitive so I can't press them into place, etc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!2014-02-24 14.31.10.jpg

When I got my Cane Corso ears done they never used a cup they just let ears go until healed then i pulled the stiches out. Dont worry about if there flopping while there still healing. After the ears are completely healed is when you might have to post for alittle while to get ears to stand correctly. Until healed let the ears alone besides keeping clean and make sure hes not scratching at them. If hes not bothering his ears he doesnt need the cone on either. The cone made a permanent scar on my Dobermans ears where her ears touched it at.

Thanks cane. What did you use to clean them? He won't let me touch them with a cotton ball with peroxide on it quite yet. I've tried a dozen times with no success so I've just been squirting Neo-pred powder on them for now and figured I'd wait until they were less sensitive to clean them.

I didnt mean to actually clean them with something. You shouldn't get the stitches wet. I meant keep him from getting them dirty. Put him up on a table and get him comfortable and he should settle down for you when you need to touch his ears. Give him treats the hole time up on table and he should eventually give in to you and let you do what is needed.

wow to me the cropping feels like a lifetime ago. I also had difficulties with the crop. I found he hurt himself more trying to keep the tape on because he kept knocking the cone and head with his paws or crate. :( SO I just took the tape off and let them heal letting them form however they did. Some people may want that perfect formation and that is ok, for Marco his right ear curls in a bit, the left sometimes depending on how he moves it. That was my choice, many people have suggested different ways of taping, I looked on youtube.

As far as cleaning what worked the best for me was getting the peroxide spray bottle, neosporin, and gauze. I tried finding a time during the day when he was a little calmer and with treats entertaining him a bit i would spray and wipe sometimes dab with the gauze. Then once I cleaned his ears I would apply the neosporin. Like mentioned above within a few days they bounce back.
