Opinion on a breeder and her excuses

No no contract, she told me that her printer had broke and could not print it out. I have a bill of sale that states how much I paid, that I paid for a show dog and breeding rights that she signed.

Good. I'd fight that battle till the end. We all make mistakes, life is a learning experience. You learn & you grow. I know my next pup will receive ample amounts of research & find a breeder I feel most comfortable with. A quality pup is a big investment & I don't want to cheat myself. I hope it all works out for you. I'm totally guilty of automatically assuming the worst. :-/

And what ticks me off is I spent 8 months researching different breeders across the us and overseas. She was in my top three that I researched. Answered all questions, was really polite, I contacted owners that bought from her, etc

Geez. I'd be pissed too. I just don't understand some people they want to better the breed then they pull this crap.

Hope it all works out. I am surprised about no contract and breeding rights. Something is not right. Best of luck. Also, how do you know you have a show quality dog? Does she health test? Guarantees?

SHe has a two year health guarantee, health testing is done, and I have research the dogs and offspring from her dogs to know they are show quality.

After just talking to akc, the information I have is correct, but there is an underlying issue apparently. I have to call back in an hour to talk to case management special assistance person. They are in a meeting right now. So we will see

I learned a lot of lessons when I bought Hank. The next one will be a very different situation. I was completely ignorant to how pure bred pups work. Every one of my dogs before him had been cast offs and mutts. My next one, which will be in about a year or so will be researched and have parent scores. My breeder was lovely and had lovely dogs but I have learned so much on here that lovely ain't cuttin the rug. They have to be meticulous. Even then from what I understand can be a gamble. Good luck. I hope it all works out.

I learned a valuable lesson when I bought Hagrid. I too paid for breeding/show rights. I was given an excuse of why she did not have his paperwork and contract 'in hand'. He was supposed to come with AKC registration, but after 1 year still no paperwork. And I've heard similar excuses. (We are going to be using an outside stud for our next breeding and yes, the stud dog owners do have to sign the AKC paperwork - but it can be done online in about 10 minutes.)

Now, I know the red flags. It takes a strong person to walk away when they are standing surrounded by puppy cuteness. I fell in love with him and allowed myself to believe the breeder's lies. Now that I look back, the red flags are glaringly obvious - but hindsight is always 20/20.

AKC was absolutely NO HELP. They won't enforce contracts or help you get papers. ESPECIALLY if there is a problem with the registration/paperwork. It says right on their website they are a registry only not an enforcement company and that people should get the paperwork/puppy registration number when they pick up the puppy. They basically say to work it out with the breeder and it's not their problem.

I feel for you. I too know what it's like to pay xtra for a dog I expected to be able to show and breed. (I did anyways, but not with AKC - after all, they are not the only registry out there, just the most popular.)

Without a contract, a lawyer will have a difficult time getting your breeder to send the paperwork or give a refund.

BTW, your breeder's excuse of her printer not working is so lame. When I needed my puppy contracts printed (and my printer had died), I went to the library and printed them there. Where there is a will there is a way. Now, I know when I deal with other breeders including stud dog owners -contract must be in hand before I pay a dime.

I have learned this two. Red flag and notes that I have taken from this experience will only help me in the future.

When I contacted akc this morning they said that since there is a pending court case between a dispute with the breeder and the stud I would have to send in the paperwork. I called the breeder ad she is suppose to be sending me the paper works since she just gave me the info lady night over the phone.

How lovely. Hopefully it won't take to long to actually GET the paperwork.....once I sent in Apollo's it was fairly quick to get it all back.
