Blanchester council looking at vicious dog legislation

The Blanchester Village Council may soon be looking at legislation pertaining to vicious dogs inside the village.

The subject was discussed at a recent meeting of Blanchester council but no decision was made. “There’s a wide range of things you can do according to the Ohio Revised Code,†said Andrew McCoy, solicitor for the village.

Measures to control vicious dogs could include keeping the dogs caged with a roof over the cage when they are on the owner’s property, leash or muzzle the dogs when they are off the property, to outright bans of vicious dogs in the village, McCoy said.

It was pointed out that vicious dogs could be more than just pit bulls.

A pit bull was recently tased by a Blanchester police officer following an incident in the village.

Elizabeth Nichols brought the issue of pit bulls up at an earlier council meeting. She said a resident, Bev Sharp, said one had chased her recently and she reported it to the police department.

I am on the Village Council and I want to clarify this article. One Council Member (namely Elizabeth Nichols ) came to a council meeting with the outlandish notion that the village should ban all pit bulls inside the village limits. Elizabeth Nichols wanted this done because a friend of hers was scared (by a dog behind a fence) while she walked her very overweight boxer down the sidewalk.

So all in all, this is a BS case of "pie in the sky - lets ban the pits and save the world" None sense.

It didn't fly with the other council members and was never considered for a vote.
