Obedience Class Exam!

Big test on Monday nights obedience class for Bella and myself! I'm not so worried about Bella's grade..... She really is my girl who only wants me happy..... It's me that's not so good at being obedient!
:p
Seriously, Bella passed in my eyes when she didn't go after that dog that attacked her when she was a wee pup. As long as we keep moving forward I believe we're passing
:)

Just in case.... Does anyone have a recipe for EM " to die for" treats

I've never found a homemade treat that was the right consistency or that was high enough value for work with distractions. What's her favorite thing? For Otis we spend the money and buy him salmon or minnow treats from Bentley's pet store. My guys are less fussy. I go to the deli and buy the end pieces of cheese, cheese is very high value here, or get of roll of food like Natural Balance and cut it into small cubes. I get a huge bag that I toss in the freezer and defrost as needed. I have also used squeeze tubes with things like liver paste or pate cat food. Or canned tripe. They love the canned tripe in the tube. Yes, it's gross and smelly. They love it.

Sheila, you have the right attitude. It's not about Bella's score but about the improvement you see and her willingness to work for you. Please let us know how it goes.

As an aside, my husband makes fun of me all the time about saying high value treats. "Is that an HVT?" "Wife, where are the HVTs? I need an HVT!" He's a dork.

Not sure it considered high value, but we‘ve been successfully using "Simply Nourish - Freeze Dried" treats. They are somewhat expensive, but especially the lamb and salmon treats have worked very well.

Thanks guys..... I bet if I can find the tripe it would do the trick for sure.
I'll have to take Bella with me to find what she loves. I'll be sure to let you know how we do on our test.

It can really depend on the dog. Many things that people use for high value treats such as hot dogs (kryten won't eat them) or diced meat won't work for Kryten with distractions. For Kryten if I want his attention the best treat to use is an apple. He will do anything, anywhere for a piece of an apple. Jiggers does best with salmon treats or a ball, but a ball works only if I want his attention on me and only me.

Yes! For Ella it's popcorn. Lol. High value is whatever the dog thinks it is. The only thing I draw the line at is cat poo. That's pretty high value to Otis.

Congratulations on the success story. My Chev the Mastiff will go to the moon and back for a hunk of cheap hotdog, and close to the value is a piece of cheese. Ummmmm... Mr. Coal is my black lab, about 8 years old with a bit of gray here and there. That certificate sure looks official !!! Have a great day, all.

Yes, there is something about a Black Labrador...thanks for noticing. Both Coal and Mr. Chev are amazing in different ways. Coal seems to be the "brains" of the duo, and Chev is the brawn. Coal will be chasing or sniffing something and when Chev looks back and notices, it's as if Chev says, "I don't know what's going on over there, but if Coal likes it, I will join in...although I have absolutely no idea why." They are funny. Pic is me and my two buddies. And I really don't have that much gray !! 005.JPG

Bella right after we received our report card .... And just before Bella Lunged at the Laber- doodle.... Bella was always trying to put the other pup in check.... As he would jump on his handler and always biting the handlers hands.
