Newark NJ 5 yr old male EM dumped at animal shelter

This gorgeous male English Mastiff was dumped in a Newark, NJ shelter today, because his "owners" are moving. He is 5 years old and he's a little on the thin side, weighing in at around 130#. A shelter volunteer met him as he was being surrendered, and said he is very gentle and calm, although the poor guy was obviously scared. He passed all of his temp tests with flying colors, and his owners said he lived with other dogs, and does well with children.
Immediately available for rescue or adoption from AHS in Newark, NJ. I will update this post with an ID# tomorrow, and any inquiries should be made directly to the shelter. (973) 824-7080 http://www.ahscares.org

If I had more land, fewer stairs, no need to work and a means to feed them, I'd have a herd too! Poor guy. I just can't see understand it.

Poor baby.. This breaks my heart :( My poor husband has no idea why I've been so insistent on getting so many acres for our first home.. I WILL foster and rescue these sweethearts!

It breaks my heart seeing people rehoming animals because they're moving.. They wouldn't get rid of their children due to a move.. why their fur babies? :(

I live in a military town, and I am sad to report that this happens quite often, and makes me feel ashamed? Pets aren't old shoes to be thrown away, yet some people see them that way. They are a part of a family, and it's heart breaking to find that there are fur parents who find their babies to be dispensable when they become "inconvenient". SMH.

My husband is military and I see it everyday. I'm constantly scouring craigslist for the people who say "free dog. take it or else it is going to the pound" so I can rehome them. It bothers me so incredibly much! It seems like a lot of military families treat pets like their duty stations (not all, but a lot!). Stationed somewhere for 3-4 years, have the animal(s), leave and leave them behind. Get to the new place and find new pets. THAT is what bothers me. It's one thing if you absolutely can not bring the pet (can't take care of him/her properly, can't give them all of the love they need, etc.) but then again, that's something people need to think of BEFORE getting an animal!

Over here in UK. A few people give their DDB's away at around 1-2 yrs due to "circumstances" many of them don't realise how big and boisterous these guys can be. It breaks my heart when I see them all. I wish I could just take them all in. The thought of not having Sammy is just unthinkable. He's our baby. Surely other dogs would be like that for their families
