Need some help: mounting/humping

I could really use some advice!

So we brought Shrek (5 year old English Mastiff) home and thought everything was going well until Shrek became fixated in mounting/humping our neutered lab. I have been working with them today to try to solve the problem, but seriously Shrek seems fixated on mating with our neutered male lab.

Wondering if you guys have an tips or training advice on how to break this behavior!?!

Thanks!

You just have to stay on top of him and stop it when you see it. It's a dominance thing and usually stops once they get comfy in their relationship/ pack standing.

Smart_Family THANK YOU for your reply. When I put them all outside is when it happens, so I have been going out with them and stopping the behavior.

Any idea how long it should take for them to get this all figured out?

Whenever we had new males, it was about a week or so when the constant humping stopped but they would still do it every once in awhile. You can also try an empty soda can with a couple pennies in it. Most dogs don't like the sound it makes when you shake it and will stop what they are doing to getaway from it.

So do I let them work it out, or do I keep them separated until this resolves?

Sorry for all the questions. We have never had a dog that did this and I am worried that the Mastiff will hurt the Lab. Not to be too graphic but The Mastiff grabs the Lab with his front legs, and then tries to go to town. Our Lab is not happy about it, but is very calm and submissive and just tries to get away or lay down.

I would really like to see them get along and not have to worry about them being outside with out my Lab being raped by a Mastiff twice his size.

Thanks for all the help. Just want to make sure I am doing the right thing!!

I had the same with Dexter and our 12yr old neutered male. It only lasted a couple of days and we just stopped him immediately. Fro what I've read and the other comments here, it does seem to be a dominance thing. He never did it again after the first few days
