I was seriously joking about restraints. I wouldn't say I treat my dogs like people. But I treat them like they have feelings. I have empathy.
If you put yourself in their shoes (paws). How would you react if you were scared, being introduced to something noisy,scary, and never before seen. What types of things would make you feel more relaxed in that type of situation? How can you implement those into this lesson you are now trying to teach your dog, in that very position.
My relationship with my dogs is one built on trust. I have such an easy time with them because of that, I think. They trust that I will protect them from that dog, or that person, so they are accepting. They trust I'm not going to hurt them when I clip their nails so they allow it. It's a very delicate thing that bond. When fostered from a young age it's very powerful. With a rescue dog that's been through hell, it's a lot more difficult to create a trusting bond. A lot of times it shows in their behaviour. Wouldn't it also show in yours?
Try to restrain me while someone is revving a chainsaw walking toward me and see what happens.
Introduce me to the chainsaw, while it's not running. Let me sense the weight of the chainsaw before ever starting it. Teach me what a chainsaw does. I'll def be more accepting of it.
Man I am the master of derailment. I don't even have to try. I usually don't realize it before i send it off. This time I did. lol
I'm gonna try it now just for the challenge. Sold me on the damn dremel. I'm going to like the smooth nails though for sure. Clipping leaves some raunchy edges if you don't file them down.
Opinions of painting dog nails? Any particular brand type work better for that purpose? I let my lil sisters paint my toes every time they come over and it's fun. I think they'd get a kick out of it if i did the dogs.
