  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

Mutt instead of purebred? Which would be okay with me. :)

So, I adopted a cane corso who is a rescue. To keep it short, her story goes like this: she was supposedly purchased from a breeder at six weeks, and after a week, she was surrendered to a shelter for being "too much puppy". The shelter didn't know what a "cane corso" was, assumed she was a pitbull despite her paperwork and her cropped tail, and went ahead and spayed her. She was eventually placed into a local boxer/cane corso rescue, and she came to me at four months old and 25 lbs. They figured she would be a petite girl due to her premature spay, and told me to expect her to top out around 80lbs.

Well, she stopped growing at 55lbs and is now two years old! She's very lanky (though muscular), and eats enough food for an 80lb dog but maintains her weight. She's athletic but only in bursts (she's lazy 80% of the time!), yet never gets fat. What are the chances she's some sort of mix instead of an actual cane? Would an early spay really make her 2/3 to 1/2 the size she should have been? I know she really should have been 80-100lbs. I am curious to do a doggie DNA test on her but I hear those are more for fun than actual accuracy. Curious what folks on this thread think based on her photo? Not sure if you can tell from the image, but she's blue brindle. Her eyes are brown (but as a puppy, she had one brown eye, one grey eye - as she got older, they changed to match).

NOT a CC expert, but her head/face doesn't look like a CC, though it could be the angle I suppose.

As for her growth, THAT early of a spay could most definetly cause her to be signifigantly smaller than otherwise.

She's lovely btw!

She looks like she's got some CC in there, but I would be hesitant to say she is 100% CC. either way, she is beautiful :)

My first thought when I saw her head is boxer. She's a gorgeous dog nonetheless. It's almost like boxer with corso color.

I agree with the others...she doesn't look like a pure corso, but she got something in her from both a corso and a boxer i'd say...she is very beautiful, healthy and she doesn't look that light

She is beautiful. I just love her ears. Elvis is nowhere near to full cc either. He was actually advertised as 3/4 pitbull and in reality, his daddy was actually a full cc although the daddy's owner has no earthly idea what he has. His mother was pit/red heeler. In reality, your little girl does have a little cc and boxer look to her and there is something else that I just can't my finger on. It's amazing what people will try to pass off as pure but hey, cc's (even mixed) are pretty cool, especially their temperaments.

Thanks for the input! We've frequently joked (especially because of the BSL where we live) that we either have the world's only miniature cane corso or the world's only blue boxer. One or the other! Maybe we have a mix of both. :)

Oh, I forgot to mention her insane underbite! Her bottom jaw is a good 1/2-2/3" longer than her top.
We call it "giving full grill" ... usually happens after she does a really good shake, and her jowls get stuck.
Gives us a belly laugh every time. :)

Now THAT is cute. she could be a pure cc, I've seen lots of breeders breeding a "boxer type".

First look and I see boxer, so I would say Boxer mix. She's beautiful and thank you for rescuing the pup!

From the first pic I would say maybe boxer/cc. The second made me laugh and looks so much like Parker's sister, who is full cc. She was born with a cleft lip and it wasn't noticed at first. She was the runt and such a tiny girl! She is now 60-65lbs at 6 1/2 yrs old. Either way your girl is a cutie!
