Meat based dry foods have high protein levels. Are these okay to feed?

I have a 5 month old female english mastiff pup. I bought her at the end of november. All has gone well. She's growing well (60lbs as of yesterday), and seems to have no health issues. The only issue I'm having is with her food.

The breeder fed her a dry food, don't remember the brand, but it was unavailable where I live. I put her on blue buffalo, and she had loose stool/diarrhea problems. I then switched to wellness, and had the same issues. With both foods, her stool was fine at first, then went soft, and then went runny.

At the advice of my mother-in-law (breeder of champion english labs) I started feeding her bil jac frozen to correct the runny stool problems till I can figure out what brand food to put her on long term. The bil jac frozen did firm her stool immediately, and I'm continuing to feed her this until I can figure out what food to switch her to.

I've read quite a bit info, and it seems that many mastiffs have issues with grain based foods. I started looking into the meat based kibbles (like canidae, or taste of the wild). However, it appears that the protein levels in the meat based kibbles are higher than whats recommended for an English Mastiff puppy. Can someone help explain this? At this point, I'm having trouble deciding what's right to feed her!

Thanks for any help.

Taste of the Wild has the salmon formula which is lower protein...there is also Innova large breed puppy....we fed a food called Canine Caviar but it's very hard to find now...

I feed Taste of the Wild: Pacific Stream formula, as mentioned above to puppies. The protein level in it is perfectly acceptable for large breed puppies. And it's a grain-free, meat-based food that is very nutritionally complete, pretty easy to find, and not that expensive. It also contains potatoes, which are a good fiber source and may help with your pup's loose stool problem.

Just remember when switching foods to do it slowly over the period of a week to prevent upset stomach.

Innova is a great food as well as Orijen...If you have no problems with ordering food check out Beowulf Mastiffs and order Life's Abundance its the top dog food for Mastiffs but can only be ordered. I have my guy on Orijen

I feed my Presa and Dogue both Taste of the Wild, best food by far. I had gone through several other brands before this, and my female has food allergies but is doing well on this.
