Hey I'm Katrina and i have a female mastiff named Bella. The problem is i got her from a friend's friend and i don't know what type of mastiff she is. I carried her by several vets and they told me it looks like An Old English Mastiff or A Brazilian Mastiff...For several months now i have been trying to find out so i came here to ask for help in identifying what kind she is ... Can anyone help me out it will be greatly appreciated .. here's a few pics

how old is she? it could be a fila or what some people call a (brazilian mastiff) but I think you would've known that by now as the dog would be pretty intolerant of everyone outside its family. or it could be from these BYBs that breed wannabe filas w/o temp... try to get some side shots of the dog while she is relaxed and that would help us make a better determination.

What is her temperament like? She looks more Fila to me. Def not a full blooded em in my opinion.

Hey Guys Thanks for the insight and i carried her by a vet today and yes she is a FILA And No Big Mac She Is A Pure Breed. I Also Carried Her For A Check Up Today Healthy, Silky Fur, Great Development ..
And I Thought Correct Too Cuz She Shows Great Anger towards outside people and only protects my family but what happen is when i got her, it looked like the owner mistreated her so she is a little shy and afraid but now with walking her and letting her run in our back yard she is doing great.

If she is a fila try to find out where she came from. I can help you get in touch with the breeder and they might be able to let you know about her bloodlines, genetic issues in the lines and so forth.

Dang! Aquiring a Fila is like aquiring a Lamborgini....improbable and awesome.

Its great you have a Fila they are very rare indeed. However just their temperament isnt going to be the sole way to determine that. Filas do have in their blood to protect but not be aggressive. It is all about how they are raised and what for. I have a Fila myself and can tell you she will bark and make noise but will eventually come around when she gets a good sniffing in. I do not agree with alot that i have read on them being insanely aggressive. This is a bad rep they got because of bad owners not bad dogs. Kinda like Pit Bulls and we know why they have that rep and thats not their fault at ALL! Show her that not everyone is a threat and dont worry if a threat comes up she will instinctively protect you. Always be around when she is introduced to new comers!! Good luck and enjoy!!!

Its good to have some good input from actual fila owners. Ive always been a little curious about their temperament.

Just today our neighbor and his son came by to borrow our trailer. She has never met either of them and instead of keepin her in the house i walked out with her. She barked at them to show them she was queen bee but i just went over to them and told/showed her that everything was cool. Told both men to just let her sniff them without reaching out to her. After a couple of minutes they were petting her. Dominance over your animal does make a world of difference no matter the size of the dog. At least that has always been my experience. =)
