270--bear hunting???

I could not imagine NOT having the right to bear arms, but that's what I grew up with, always had guns in the house, & I assume everyone else does too.

This little episode has given me a wake up call & I am really NOT liking it. It's a sickening feeling in the pit of my stomach.
Society is getting worse, people are so unstable & it's more difficult to just have a home & RELAX in your day to day life without having to worry about some other nutter.

Explained the situation to my XBF, who's been pushing for a couple of years for me to get my permit to carry.
Now that we're not together, he's pushing more. LOL nothing like having an XBF *wanting* you to be armed.
Since he was always packed, everywhere we went, never left home without it, I didn't feel the need, & I didn't want the hassel of 1 more thing to think about.

The feeling of powerlessness that results from a situation like this just isn't what I wanted to be thinking about.
The reality is I have no idea how that nutjob would've behaved had it just been the 2 of us & not a bunch of women there witnessing the situation. I like to walk trails & such & it's dangerous now to even do that, other dog owners have told me not to do the trails alone until Tessa is full grown, because it's risky, & that's coming from men.

In TX, you can carry in your car as long as you have a CHL, I believe. The only time it cannot be in your car is at educational institutions, federal/city buildings and employers who prohibit it.

I took a summer class and forgot I had my gun and I had to leave it in my car. Legally, I could have been arrested.

Actually for the moment target shooting...eventually if the rules ever change in WI, I'll use it for deer hunting but the county my dad lives in is shotgun & muzzleloader only during gun season

I'm looking to get a 270 myself here in California, mostly for boar and deer. I grew up in IL and OH and both of them were shotgun and muzzle loader only states so I didn't even realize people could use rifles in other states.

It's something they've been slowly changing in WI. I honestly don't think they'll change it in my dad's county. It may be too populated. I think they've just been changing it in more "sparse" counties for now. But we'll see. Would definitely change things a bit!

Incorrect. In Texas, anyone who can legally own a firearm can have a loaded firearm concealed in their vehicle.

in PA if you have a permit to carry, you can have it loaded in your vehicle, if not it must be seperated.

I think xbf has the bersa 380. I'm gonna have to give it a whirl.

Here in PA we have "gun bashes"...it's usually at a fire hall or a VFW--Gun Bashes are like charity events...
...except more fun cuz they have beer & poker...
:)
He won it at a gun bash. Was handed to him that night, by a police officer.

Check this out.

Re: Man threatened he'd have his dog kill my puppy-Police ARE involved-thoughts/advic

yes, I've been putting off getting a license to carry, because I can't carry to/from work & can't have it on work property, I suppose that's my excuse.

Though I saw a beautiful Ruger I wanted before xmas at Cabela's.

Not sure about sanity, that's quite subjective,
but I pass every backround check--lol am a civil servant, so they crawl up my behind on a regular basis.

I was actually going to join the gun club locally & get some lessons, I haven't shot in probably 15-20 years, so am way rusty.

Wonder if I can take Tessa? I have a sneaking suspicion she's got some gun dog blood in her--if her hearing is any indication...

It was all fun & games when I used to go to the range, just blowing stuff up. Need some actual target practice, & something that doesn't have heavy recoil, as my wrists aren't what they used to be.

Catia, sorry to hear this has happened. If you want a pistol with little recoil and size, I would suggest a Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm Compact. My wife has small hands and this one fits her well and there is little to no recoil for her.

I would hope it did not come to this, but some times you cannot predict what will happen. As others stated, I would have my phone ready to capture this on video. But then again you cannot know if this would set him off or not. Having witnesses around would hopefully make him step back and think twice. You might need the pepper spray as an alternative.

Hopefully this will not escalate and you can enjoy your time with Tessa.

That's correct. I was referring to this part of your post:

Sorry, I should have only quoted this.

The incident is more of a wake up call. I am of course hoping nothing escalates, but a threat like that, which he repeated multiple times infront of a bunch of people in a public venue needs to be taken seriously.
This man, he needed to feel like he was 'in control' of something, standing there with 2 huge dogs, in a park full of women & pooches, telling his rottie to to get me-showing he could be somebody & had power-This is someone who's on the edge, or has tipped the edge. No one of sound mind with dogs that size would EVER say or do something of that nature. He was making sure everyone knew--

I just don't 'get it'--anyone with a a big dog knows full well the consequences of such actions-it's hard enough having a big dog with breed bans & all the hype in the media. This incident wreaks of instability & also, I feel, of a man who must have nothing else to lose--if he is willing to go that far.

Or--maybe they are NOT his dogs--One woman told police she had not seen him there before, but had seen a woman with those 2 dogs previously. This makes a bit more sense--I just can't see a dog owner taking that risk-not with a rottie bitch of that size. Presence alone is enough to deter most people.

I certainly posed no threat in all of my 5'1" & a puppy.

Fact is, he could've been arrested for just making the threats against me WITHOUT the dogs, though after talking to animal control, there's going to be a LOT more issues because of the dogs, they're taking this very seriously.

Yes, pepper spray & getting my ass moving on something I should have done a long time ago, which is getting my permit to carry. Best case scenario is that I never have to use either one ever, in my lifetime, but better to be safe than sorry.

Some people are just idiots, they revel is having a dog "big enough and mean enough to attack and kill". They don't understand the consquences of such and they wouldn't care if they did......

Catia, you are right it is better safe than sorry. If they were not his dogs, then I hope whomever they belong to can see what a douche this guy is. Personally threatening a woman (with dogs or yourself) is pretty low. I can see where this can rattle someone, and I hope someone can get the information the police need.

As you stated, it is bad for the dogs as well. Giant breeds are looked at with a tainted eye by most of the public and issues with an idiot watching them only adds fuel to the fire.

Most of all, I hope it all turns out for the best and please take care.

If you'd like I can bring my girl there. She's 110lbs of Cane Corso who won't be pushed around by any dog. Her roomates before I got her were 200, 175, and 160lbs and she learned to handle herself and stand her ground when needed.
