Male or Female?

I've heard such mixed feeling on this, just wondering what the consensus was of people who have these dogs. I always go for females, I don't know why, just what I am used to I guess. I have two kids 13 and 4 and one on the way. Someone said I should get a male because they are less aggressive, I've never bought into the whole "bad breed" deal and always believe it was the way the dogs were raised more than anything. I don't have a preference either way, just wondering if anyone has noticed anything either way. My friend has a gorgeous blue one and her daughter climbs all over him. I can see what people saying about the females being more protective and aggressive since they have that maternal instinct but I just don't know! Ultimately it's going to come down to which puppy seems to have the best energy. I don't want a shy puppy, but I don't want a rambunctious dominant one either! Luckily the owners of the mom said I can come first and have the pick of the litter, hoping that helps!

I have a female TM and male Akita at home and he is way more affectionate than she is, but she is a TM at the end of the day. Not sure how affectionate CC's are known to be. I dont know really if the sex of the dog makes more of a difference than the breed either. Hmmm so many variables.

Welcome by the way.

It comes down to personal preference I think. The males in our house/lines are the cream puffs generally doing whatever the females say (not to be mistaken with being cream puffs for everyone just in our house they usually bend to the will of the females) in other's houses they say the males rule the roost. Some say females are better house dogs and some say males are better as long as they are fixed.

In the end I think it comes down to personal opinion and what you want. Just make sure the breeder knows the temperament you are looking for.

Personal Preference indeed. lol I am biased to males as well. I like my boys!

In my experience i have witnessed the female dogs ruling the nest more so than the males. Females I have known are also a lot more whiney.

LOL! See I find my males more whiny, they are complete mama's boys and it can get to be a bit much.

I've always had females, I think my mother has it ingrained in my head, mainly because she said that boys lift to pee and it's easier to clean up a squat then a lift, lol. We had two English Mastiffs, a mom and daughter, seriously the best dogs ever!!! I loved them and miss them so much, I am not sure I have a preference, I think it's going to come down to personality/temperament, I was just curious what everyone else's opinions were.

They are both great but if I were to choose one, I'd go with the female just cus of the whole marking thing. Yuck.

Both of mine are male. My next one will be female, just so I can find out the differences and then I may decide on one gender.

I have always had males. Only ever had one female and more than anything that is because of heat cycles I do not want to deal with. I can say that my female was less "lovey" than my boys and less patient as a whole. The dogs I am talking about are prior to Ruger and were all APBT's except for one crazy Catahoula Cur that was a mama's boy, too. I think that the boys are needier in that they want to be with thier owner all of the time but every boy I have ever had has had endless patience with babies and kids. My girl....She did good with the kids when they were little but she had a preference to disapear when the boys seemed to love the chaos of the babies. I had two male APBT's and the female when my twin boys were born and my oldest son was 3 1/2 and both boys adored rolling around with the kids and tolerated more than you can imagine, happily. Shady never looked crooked at them but if the opportunity arose she would go put herself away from the "fun".

Mary, your last post in this thread just shed a whole lotta light on my household! My female Great Dane mix rules my male mastiff. So much so that I still question Zeke with other males, but I know it would have to be an extreme circumstance (if at all) for him to mix it up with a female. Thank you :)

I do have to say that Zeke is hands down the whiny one.

Personally I have always preferred males (ask my daughter, she will tell you my son is the "fav" child...lol). I don't know why I prefer the males, because I've always had boxers and in the past I have owned some phenomenal females. And a couple months ago when I decided to forego the "purebred pedigree" dog for the first time in my life and give a home to a rescue dog, in my mind it was definitely going to be a male...no doubt about it. But, something weird happened when I walked in that rescue....I had a choice of male vs female, but when I locked eyes with the female...well, she "chose" me. I still don't understand how I came home with a female that day after months of research and knowing I wanted a male; and she still tells me that everyday when her eyes meet mine. Just my experience :)

I have a female corso and she is VERY affectionate with the family. Sitting near you is not enough for her...she needs to be touching you. She is also a talker and a whiner, which has taken me a while to get use to. If size is a factor for you, a female will generally be smaller. If you go with a male are you prepared to wait a couple of years before you neuter him? If you go with a female you should wait 18 months before she is spayed. It boils down to what works for your situation...either way these dogs are wonderful.

Even though I just got my first female em I prefer males. One for their size, they seem to be more loving, and no heat cycles.

I love both my male and female, both are affectionate, patient with the family and responsive to us. Our female definitely rules the roost, but I believe that is true of all species :p Sure we may allow the guys to think they have some say but...
