Little EM Pup

I saw a thread similar to this, but from a while back...
We bought a AKC EM female pup last week (with only seeing the parents from the seller's phone). I just expected such a large breed pup to be bigger, but then didnt have any others to compare to. Everything Ive read so far since buying her has indicated them being much larger at her age. She is 9 weeks old now and 10# even. Her mom is "130#" and dad "160#"... is she just gonna be a mini mastiff? ; ) Kinda worried we arent gonna have the huge dog we were wanting (will still love her just the same of course).

sounds small to me...I deal with Filas which are smaller and at 9weeks they are bigger than 10lbs. better someone with EM experience answer this one though.

I was worried when my pup was 9 pounds at 6 weeks, 10 pounds at 9 weeks is def small. Do you have any pics of her?

That does sound small. Mine isn't even purebred EM, (weimaraner x EM) and she was 23 pounds at 10 weeks. I'm expecting maybe 80-90 lbs out of her total. Even though Mama was an EM, she was small @ 110 lbs. After being "tricked" by a few places, I learned to always see both parents, no matter what they say. If you don't buy from a reputable breeder (which I haven't because we just flat out can't afford it), you never know what you are going to get. People will say all sorts of different things to sell pups. But I'm not picky and just wanted an EM more for temperament than anything. Size doesn't matter to me. And I fell in love with Topaz's mama (EM) and would have taken her home if she fit in the back of my car too. ;)

I'm sure you are already doing this, but make sure she is on dewormer. If she has a tapeworm, it's robbing her of nutrition and she won't grow.

Best of luck and post pics if you can. I'm sure that will help the pro EM owners on here help you out even more.

I'm assuming she is purebred(hoping!) Havent got the papers yet! : / They are supposed to mail them to me this week (they didnt have them in yet). Ooo.. reading my own words now is making me nervous. Vet appointment tomorrow. This pic is from last week, bringing her home at 8 weeks. 240300_2032708415252_1170410795_2459755_7333223_o.jpg240300_2032708415252_1170410795_2459755_7333223_o.jpg

Are you sure she's only ten pounds? She looks bigger in the pic ;)

Whatever she weighs, she's adorable! That's exactly what my Topaz's mama was. A beautiful brindle EM. :)

My bull/English is Going to be a small one too. I was having high hopes she was going to be a monster since her momma was an English and her dad a 180 pound bull. She's 12 weeks now and is about 30-35 pounds. Like you said you still love her. That's all that matters I guess. It just sucks if you got scammed. And the papers thing sounds a little odd. My dad used to breed German shepherds and to register pups and get papers only took about 2 weeks. Maybe they got lazy and didnt file for them right away but it shouldn't take to long.

mmm, I dont know...I register with CBKC in Brazil (fila Brasileiros) and it takes 6mths if your lucky and the paper work doesnt get kicked back...been waiting about 9mths now and I am the one doing the paperwork, lol. Thank God that I have understanding puppy owners I can imagine it getting ugly quick.

Thanks Kandie and Stevsh! She is my adorable lil thing.. and soo smart too. We had a great vet visit tonight, does have hook and round worms.. might be holding back a lil growth there too (not much). So we are all treated and on preventatives. Changing food from pedigree puppy to science diet large breed puppy to "keep her from growing too fast"--vet. Ha..kinda ironic. She was an angel at the docs.. never even flinched with shots and even napped while we talked about her. After just a week, we've been 3 days without an potty accident <knock on wood>, she slept all night with no crying from night one, puts herself in her crate when she's tired for a nap, and is GREAT with her human siblings. Cant beat that, I think my midget is a keeper! = )~ Talked to seller a lot last night, he's very cooperative and helpful. I understand about the paperwork bc my parents used to breed, plus this is his first litter..not quite a pro at it all yet. Oh, and she is 11 lbs 2 oz. 9 weeks.

Although I recommend going to a Large Breed puppy food from a regular puppy food. I would highly recommend you look at other brands then Science Diet. Science Diet is a very low quality dog food. Who pays Vets to sell it in their shops. There are many links in theses forums discussing food quality. Hopefully you get paperwork soon. Good luck clearing up the worms.

By the way the puppy is very cute.

Yes I would highly recommend not feeding science diet. Its garbage for lack of a better word I would look into taste of the wild pacific stream an all life stages food and they won't grow to fast on it
