Introducing Wilbur the Bullmastiff

I want to take time to formally introduce my new Bullmastiff puppy Wilbur. I brought him home at 7 weeks and 1 day. This is my first mastiff puppy. Currently I also have a 2 year old German Shepherd. I almost got a Bullmastiff puppy 2 years ago when I got my GSD, but I was scared away by the reports or stubbornness that I read about while researching the breed.

This time around I went with my gut, did more research, found a breeder, and now I have my pup Wilbur. He's 11lbs at 7 weeks, and I must say, the calmest puppy i've ever been around so far (other breeds I've owned: Lab, Chow-mix, pit-mix, GSD).

I haven't gotten a hang of the pictures yet, but i'm going to add to the Bullmastiff Growth Chart thread, with not only an update of the weight, but also a picture using the same pose next to the same item so you can see him grow.

Here are some of the candid shots I snapped of him with my cell phone today.

More pics of my fat puppy. I know he should be kept thin, but he didn't get the memo. He hasn't eaten as much as i've expected so far.

Love him. And the name is fantastic! Looking forward to seeing him grow up. Mario was super calm as a puppy. What a blessing after a hyper lab. ;)
I wanted to use the name Leo, dh wanted Reggie and kids wanted Mario. I also liked Angus & Abel but they vetoed all of those. :p since our next will be a female - I'm pushing for Fionna, Lola, or Ruby. Hahaha- names & no puppy.

I thought his belly just looked big like that from the way he was laying.

It does look big because of the way he's laying, but he's pretty chunky also. I don't suspect worms right now since he's been dewormed a few times. Are there other symptoms of worms?

Generally, symptoms of worms are diarrhea and their coat is dull looking and of course, you can see them in the poop. If he has none of those symptoms, then he just a little cutie tubby!

Sweeet, Sweeet PUPPY Pictures!! :)
Congratulations!!

I can't tell that he looks chunky to me. Could just be baby fat. :) As he grows, he'll lean out (assuming you keep track of his food consumption, of course).

Here's what a wormy belly looks like - distended and ROUND. He pooped spaghetti for a few days after his first vet visits. Poor guy, he had a rough first few weeks, coming in through rescue groups. He grew up into a happy, healthy puppy, though - until we lost him to cancer when he was 9 years old.

Here are a few shots i've taken today. I'm trying my hand at being a Windows Phone Photographer, but I can never get him still enough to take any good shots. These are some pics I took around the house and in the back yard.

Before I got my Wilbur, I wasn't that big of a fan of the Fawn Brindle color. I prefered the Red, Apricot, Apricot Brindle, or Red Fawn color, but his coat and markings are striking against the sun light, and i've developed a new favorite! Now only if I could figure out a way to preserve those blue eyes.
