Awww,,,not fair! I have 3 Chihuahuas, a mini dachsund, a maltese/papillion mix and the big guy Camo (Neo). My little guys are sweethearts and Camo loves his "little elders." They're tougher than they look, and as long as you don't make/train them to be wussies, they're not. My little guys don't shake in fear, snarl & snap, and they certainly do not act, nor are they treated like little "accessories." They're sweet and lovable and love to hang out with us on the couch. It's all in how they're raised. I love them all!

Even my boyfriend (who is a biker, tattooed sleeves and all) has no problem being out with our little guys. He's secure enough in his manhood to not be ashamed to say he has Chihuahua!

well, I have had 2 shih tzu's, and they were both wonderful pets. Such personality and friendliness. I miss them both so much. I kept them both trimmed short , they played with everyone, and were awesome at travel too. Just as giant breeds are not for everyone, I know that small breeds may not be too. But I will say, don't judge a dog by it's size/fur. My Sadie Mae was an awesome guard dog, fearless, and very aware. My EM on the other hand, well, at least no one can come in the door, but that is only because she is sleeping in front of it. LOL I have known many small dogs that are wonderful animals. While I may not like that my favorite breeds did not make the list, I see why some of these were chosen. Every other airheaded starlet carries one and it makes them look like a girly choice.

Little dogs are ok depending on the dog.. I've met two nice Chi out of the dozen I have come across. Can't walk my rottie around the block because someone has a chi thats loose 24/7 and tries biting my dog's feet. Grand parents have a Shi tzu who is dumb as dirt but a lady who fostered my dog Chumah has a Shi tzu who is very sweet and smart.
Had a pug for like 3 days that I found it was so destructive, had to wear a belly band because he marked in the house. Was going to rehome him through the rescue but my mother found a "lost pug" sign.. I was NOT happy that she called the man..
The dog was in crappy shape, flea infested and thin. Come to find out he is a back yard breeder and tried selling us a freash batch of boxer puppies. Should have seen if he would have done a trade.. His pug for a puppy.

My boyfriend had a mini poodle growing up who ate at the table(UGH!). He want's to get mini poodles because he thought his dog was awesome.
His sister has yorkies and they are ok.. Very old so can't judge them.

I baby sit a Bishon here and there and she is a prissy dog. She doesn't really like me because I like brushing her coat out into a big fluff ball.Shes ok though.. I wouldn't own her...

To each there own.. Every dog is different. I like dogs I don't have to bend over to pet but others might like being able to hold their dogs...

ok, so when I said guard dog, I was remembering the time when two guys came to fix our washing machine. They were working on it and Sadie Mae(shih-tzu) and I were upstairs and she was barking like crazy. As soon as I opened the door, she tore down stairs as fast as she could snarling and growling and leapt at one biting his buttocks. In a matter of 20 seconds she had 2 large grown men sitting atop the washer and dryer set in complete fear. I talked her down and picked her up, after I shook their hands and showed her they were ok, she walked off fine, no problems. She went and perched on the couch and just watched them work. LOL I still get tickled thinking about it, and I miss her so.

So what does it say about me and my SO if he has a 4# chihuahua and I have a pit mix? LOL. People love seeing him with the little guy tucked under his arm, baby talking the poor dog to death. Too funny.

I would also argue yorkies are not as girly as they look. My (EXTREMELY GIRLY) sister owns a mini, and that dog really needs a way firmer hand and is a terrier type through and through--decisive, tough, energetic, relentless, very willful, and a total huntress. I want to put that dog in line so badly my beagle will do it for me when I fail to act and the Yorkie is being a dominant little brat.

LOL I love it when grown men baby talk to dogs. It's hysterical and adorable all rolled into one.

My mother in law went from an amazing Airedale to this stupid little 5 pound rat. I don't even know what the heck it is. It is the neediest, yappiest, most annoying beast in the history of the world. She brought it my house once. It tried to dominate my 90 pound Newdle for an hour before I finally got tired of keeping him under control and let him show the idiot who was really boss.

Of course my mother in law was horrified that my big dog would scare her poor little baby.

It's not the size of the dog or how fuzzy they are or aren't that makes a good dog. A friend of mine has an amzing mini mutt. It must be a mix of about 17 breeds. It weighs like 4 pounds and pretty awesome. You just can't do a 5 mile hike with him.

Agree with deb, I think the pugs are cute but wouldn't have one myself. All of those fall under the "yip yip" category for me and I couldn't do it. When I get a dog I want a DOG. Lol

We have a baby sling for the chi for this purpose. Between beer, supplies (real supplies), and the dog, it's quite a lot to carry.

Most Mastiff type people I have found are attracted to the French Bulldog, they are little mini molosser and are just neat dogs. The rest on that list: not happening in my house..although the pug is okay.

I would fall into that category. I really don't like small dogs, but there's something about Frenchies that pull me in...

For one, they are quiet; I've never met a yappy FB.
Second they have a "presence" and confidence that reminds me of the Mastiff type dog.

And they are just so damn cute. :)

I agree with everyone else, I don't like small, yappy dogs, but I do like the French Bulldog. Being 100% honest though, I still want Colin the Pomeranian from Crufts this year. (Do you watch crufts in the US or..)

Definitely not me. French bulldogs are not something I would want, not cute enough.
