Hi. I am ElvisMom. I found this forum while looking for information on my cane corso mix breed pup. Elvis is now 18 weeks old. Initially I responded to an ad for pitt mix pups but after looking at dad, I was pretty sure that he was not a pitt and felt that he was a mastiff although I did not know which one. My vet confirmed that my pup, Elvis, is a cane corso mix and I have discovered that there are differences in the breed temperments. He is such a super smart pup and he does require alot of attention and he does have a tendency to be destructive if left alone for more than two hours. Thankfully, I work in a profession that allows me to bring him to work and we are working on socializing although he could care a less if anyone but me and my husband gives him attention. I attached a picture I took of him about ten days ago and quite frankly his growth rate is amazing to me. Another thing that I find amazing is how he is maturing and how much consistent, firm, and loving handling he requires to ensure that he continues to grow and socialize properly.

Welcome aboard~ Elvis is handsome! Sounds like Elvis may have separation anxiety/normal puppy behavior. It's great you are socializing him. Has he had OB training?

Elvis has had no formal training. He is leashed with basic commands: Stop, sit, down, heel, and no pull. He also obeys simple commands like stop, sit, lay, wait, and he understands no. He has recently learned to play fetch. Generally h gives me whatever it is we are playing with. The only exception is when he tries to tug it awaythen I cross my arms and ignore him until he lays the object at my feet and sits. I have looked at formal classes but that basic obedience that I have already taught.I wished I could find someone close to me who knows more about the temperment of the cane because it took me a minute to figure out what works best with his growing body and mind.

Oh yeah, he's pretty. Corso's are amazing dogs. I don't know why people mistake them for pitts. I don't think they look anything alike. My son own pitts and we own Corso's. If you stand them side by side there is no question which is which. So odd. Good luck with him. He's lovely.

pit only has one t, but that is still not correct when referring to those dogs. A pit is a hole in the ground or something you smear deodorant on. Pit Bull, is the correct way to say it. Two words, one t.

(pet peeve of mine, sorry!)

Lol....since I am with him all of the time, I don't realize how big he actually is. I am one of those tall, big women, so everything looks small to me. We went to the park yesterday afternoon and my husband was laughing because of how big he looks compared to other dogs his age, yet when I look at him, I still see small.

yeah the same happens to me ! he looks always the same, but when i make a fast comparison between him and my 2other dogs i totally notice the difference. Or the scale actually tells me that he grows day by day...I really wonder how much your big guy weights

Hi Francesco....I've been wondering the same thing. Considering I can lift 50 lbs without much trouble, we are thinking he is more than that. I am thinking that I need to call the vet and see if I can bring him in just to weigh him because at times, I do pick him up off of the couch (when he tries to refuse to go potty before bedtime) and I am starting to have a hard time doing it...lol. At 15 weeks, he was sitting at 42.7lbs and I know he has gotten bigger since then, just looking at him sitting next to my coffee table proves than...lol

ahah that's both funny and remarkable :) i am still weighing my dog on my home scale (i check my weight first, then i get on the scale holding him...lol...and the maths does the rest) but i am afraid i am gonna have to stop doing that because he is getting too heavy...i don't want to ruin his joints or bones by holding him not properly...so this really troubles me because i'd like to check his weight once a week, but at the same time i realize i cannot bother my vet every week just to check his weight...so what do we do? :)

ps the more i see your guy the more i like him
