*Long Story* I rescued bones just about 5 months ago! I am a new mastiff owner and have only had small breeds and GSD.
Bones story is a sad and happy one. I am not entirely sure what kind of mastiff he is. I was cruising through craigslist for a crate for my moms chihuahua when I stumbled across a posting for puppies, puppy/dog supplies (crates, leash etc) for cheap. I emailed her and agreed to meet her at her house to pick up a smaller crate. When I got there I realized she was running some type of puppy mill out of the bottom of her disgusting junk filled house. We spoke a little and she said she was trying to get rid all of her dogs to move out of state and more than likely was going to turn the dogs into the pound. She had about 10 dogs from what I could see. She asked if I was interested in a dog I told her no. Not since my wire terrier D.O.G was lost and never found in 2012 I didn't want another dog.
She said she had a great dog named Bones whose owner had been a friend of hers who had left the dog with her to go out of town and never came back from him. She had said she was glad they did. They had mistreated him, even going as far as cropping his ears & tails themselves which had caused them to mess up. Even though they were not skilled enough to do it. She explained to me he was scared of everyone and everybody, but fiercely loyal to her. Reluctantly I agreed to see him.
There was something about him that I instantly fell in love with. He was so skinny (65lbs), but curious and slightly affectionate. I took him home.
Long story short the lady had neglected him. He was 60 lbs, unhealed scratches across his body and terrified. He had a tape worms that had been left untreated, and a badly infected prostate. He would growl at anyone that came near besides me. He was so sick. A vet even went as far as saying he may need to be put down and it broke my heart that because of a abuse by two owners he had to loose his life. But, I was selfish and couldn't let him go.
Four months later he is a happy healthy 3-5 year old boy! He's learning his faith back to world and loving people and belly rubs. He has even saved my life by attacking a man who broke the window out of my house where I lived alone at night. I love my Bones, hes my world lol!
P.s. Can anyone tell me what type of mastiff he is.. the lady said cane corso.. but I dont believe her?
