Titan and I just wanted to pop in and say hi. He is about 19 weeks and weighs 63.6 lbs. He is such a joy! Hopefully he stays this way when his hormones kick in. :) These pics are from when he was 14 weeks old expect the last two.. Those were from the last 2 weeks. I think hes a cutie, but, yes... Thanks for the welcome and the kind words! We experienced our first doggy park today. We stayed on the side with no one in it so he could get use to the surroundings and the dogs. He really enjoyed running the fence trying to play with the other dogs, but I am still leery about letting him go in as of yet. Any advice for the dog parks? Here is a pic of him and his own side of the park today. :)

If you do a search for dog parks on the forum, you will see there are mostly nightmare stories vs good stories because other pup owners do not watch their own pups. What usually happens is that a pup starts a fight with your pup and it's your pup's fault because he's usually the bigger pup.

It's great that you were able to keep him away from the other pups.

Some members like dog parks but there are very few of them. I would recommend socializing Titan at human parks while on leash. Always tell humans to not approach him until you and Titan are ready for them to approach. Bring Titan to a sit and reward with motivational treat. Tell the human to pet him under the chin and do not stare him in the eyes. It's your job to watch Titan's body language. If you notice he's going to stress, then tell the human to turn around wand walk away.

For another pup, always walk side by side at a small distance from each other before allowing the pups to meet. Avoid head to head meetings. After they have walked and Titan and the other pup are relaxed around each other, walk them closer to each other. This requires learning Titan's body language and other dog's body language to know they are relaxed around each other. This also requires the other pup owner knowing their pup's body language.

Hope that helps.

musicdeb,

Thank you for all the advice.. I will read up on dog parks on this site and see what I can find out..

Just wanted to give everyone an update.. Here is Titan, 3 days shy of 20 weeks and weighs 71lbs.. He has been such a great puppy.. Walking on the leash is great, however we do have a few instances where he throws a little fit, but we stop and I make him sit and then he is ready to go after a few seconds.. And he is also eating much more lately, so I am expecting a growth spurt.. Its exciting!

Hey guys.. Just wanted to give everyone an update.. Titan is now 5.5 months and weighs 94 lbs! Although he doesn't look like it at all. He has developed a hygroma on his right elbow, however, it is finally going away.. He has had it for about a month and a half.. I have a doggy door and he LOOOVES to bring in everything that he can from the outside.. So I am trying to work on that, he is kind of getting better at leaving things outside, but, I guess he just gets to excited with them and wants to share. lol I am now wondering what adolescence is going to be like.. lol Enjoy the pics!

Titan looks healthy and fit! An EM owner posted on Facebook that her EM brought in a possum from outside into the house. Eeeeekkkk!

Does he know "leave it" and "drop it"? You can use "leave it" when you see him bringing something into the house and use "drop it" when he's already made it into the house with the gift. :)

Just wanted to update everyone... Titan is now a Year and 6 days old.. Weighs 187lbs, and is 33" at the withers. His hygroma on the right side went away, however he now has one on the left side, and its pretty massive.. Size of a softball probably. I made him some elbow pads, and they lasted 3 weeks and 2 days before he destroyed them. I am working with him on laying down slowly and softly.. We still have a lot of work to do. Anyway.. pics below! He is the sweetest. bestest dog ever! :D

Been along time since I updated, But I wanted to let everyone know Titan passed away last night around 7:45 pm after his surgery for a perforated intestine. The culprit was a raw chicken bone. I did feed him a raw diet after researching and talking to my vet, I deemed that raw chicken bones were able to digest fully, and there shouldn't be a problem. We just got unlucky. I hope everyone who does feed a raw diet with bones, just to be super careful. Its only been less than 24 hours, and I really, really miss him. May your doggies have a long and wonderful life!
