Help With 6 week old CC.

Spartacus

My wife and I recently rescued a 6 week old CC. I have been reading that I should soak his food in warm water, is this true? and why?

Also, any other suggestions and tips would be helpful.

I was given a recipe using an egg and condensed milk I believe to replace mothers milk but I'd ask someone more knowledgable in nutrition like smart family but I mixed it with kibble when someone abandoned a mutt by my house. What kibble are you using? Smart family can help you there as well. Shes a plethora of knowledge when it comes to this stuff.

Please consider another food. Mastiffs have very specific dietary needs and pro plan has menadione in it which is a very controversial ingredient. Also many mastiffs have issues with grains and chicken so I advise avoiding both. At his age he should eat at least 3 times a day.

Can you please suggest me a kind I can probably find at my nearest pet store and/or online?

Sure! Besides the whole chicken and grain thing, growing mastiffs need specific nutrient levels (namely calcium and phosphorus). There are a lot of foods out there but some of my favorites are Earthborn Holistics coastal catch, meadow feast or Great Plains feast; Acana Pacifica; orijen 6 fish; natures variety instinct rabbit meal or limited ingredient turkey are just to name a few. Any of these can be found online. What do you have for places to be pet food around you?

Spartacus...the foods Smart Family mentioned are all great and perfect for your pup, but you will not find them at PetSmart. Try going on line or searching for smaller "mom and pop" pet supply stores nearby. Some smaller chains do carry these foods...Cutter Mills, Pets Plus. I'm not sure if you have these stores near you though.

So I woke up bright and early this morning and started going to one petsmart, petco and a few mom and pops in my area. I was able to find "The Blue Buffalo Wilderness High Protein - Grain Free Natural Puppy Kibble". The good thing is that the mom and pops place I went to provided a tester for spartacus, HE LOVED IT! (soaked of coarse). I know he's suppose to be eating 3-4 times a day and I hope he does that with this food this time around.

What are ya'll input about The Blue Buffalo. I see them used by CC breeders.

With the blue buffalo wilderness there are only a couple formulas that are appropriate for mastiff puppies. Puppy formulas are really unnecessary. I'm going to assume its the chicken formula since you mentioned its puppy. That particular formula is on the higher end of being okay. You do need to watch for any signs that he's not tolerating the chicken. Should you decide to go the adult route I would go either salmon or duck.

My bad petco does have the natures variety though that's where I get it for my crew.

I order Earthborn and get free shipping from MrChewydotcom. It's setup so I automatically get two bags every three weeks and cost around 97(I think) shipped.

thank you all for the help about the topic on what to feed Spartacus :)

my next question is this: Spartacus being 6weeks and 3 days today, sleeps a lot but eats an average of 1 full cup a day. I have a vet appt. on Monday but I want to be knowledgeable with what is going on. is it because he was separated so early from his mother that he's like this? why isn't eating 3-4 Times a day? he's such an active puppy that takes lots of naps but doesn't eat much....

any information would be greatly appreciated.
