Help, Mo has hives

Mo is 4 1/2 months and is having an allergic reaction to something.
He has hives down both sides of his body and yesterday morning his eyes were almost swollen shut.
The vet has recommended Benadryl and we've been giving him that but the hives are back again this morning.
Has any one dealt with this before. What did you use?
We're not sure what is causing it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If benedryl isn't helping enough there are stronger antihisteme's the vet can prescribe.

But you'll need to figure out what the cause is too.

Are you in the US? If so approx where? It could be something blooming outside.

Or if you use a scented/colored laundry detergent/fabric softener on his bed or other things he gets exposed to.

Or if you use a "freshener" on your upholstry.

Or if you've recently sprayed your yard for insects, or put down a new mulch?

Or recently changed his food or started giving him a new treat?

The vet said it was hives.
Can't think of anything new that he has been exposed to.
We're on the west coast of Canada and its summer right now and pretty hot. Thought it might be caused by the heat at first but it has cooled off the last couple of days.
Has anyone used any other antihistamine's?

My Arty has a script for clemastine. It is technically availible for human's OTC in the US, but I'm not sure of the dosage, so you may be better off talking to the vet and getting a prescription, at least at first, so you know the dosage.

I know here on the East coast USA, we've got a bunch of wildflowers/weeds blooming within the last week or so, so I'd expect you've got similer blooming there.

Did you recently (with in the last few weeks, not just the last couple days) do any of the above? Have you washed his bed (or blanket or whatever)? Exposure can build up, it doesn't have to be a TOTALLY BRAND NEW thing to be causing this.

I'm in southern Alberta and I know the fall allergy season is just starting here. One of my dogs suffers from seasonal allergies. His symptom is extreme eye discharge, almost like a white cherry eye. I haven't tried antihistamines but likely will this fall.

I do use allegry meds. when my dog has a reaction but not always as quick acting as I would like. I also use a medicated shampoo daily for a couple days and then weekly.

Otitis had a severe allergy to something when at a boarding kennel last year. Unfortunately to this day we don't know what caused it. He had hives over his body and his skin on chest and neck broke open and bled causing him terrible pain. The vet prescribed antibiotics along with prednisone and a medicated shampoo. The shampoo was excellent and healed his skin up very quickly. At the time the vet thought he may have an auto immune disease because he was so sick. The shampoo was Malaseb which contains chlorhexidine and miconazole. Hope that helps.
