Hello everyone

Hello everyone I am Sheila and I am new to this community I am 31 years old originally from Chicago Illinois but just moved out to Earleville Illinois with my family of four and our new Bullmastiff puppy Tyson.... Tyson is turning a year old tomorrow April 17, 2014 and I feel that he may be underweight for his age he's weighing hundred and 9 pounds is this normal for a year old bull mastiff puppy.... .?? :)

Hi and Welcome!

"Normal" is all based on the dog's genetics... I'd say 109lbs is easily within the wide range of "average" for a one-year old BM.

How does he look?
Can you post some pictures of him standing up - from the side and top, if you can.
You want him to be lean with a rib or two easily felt (if not seen).

He's still growing, and they all grow at different rates (nature & nurture both at work), so "normal" is not something you can tell from just his weight.

Welcome. DennasMom said it best. "Normal" is a relative term enhanced or limited by genetics and to a moderate extent environment/nutrition.

Hi,

My Mo just had his first birthday April 15th, he is 117 pounds. Your Tyson is not far off. They all grow at different rates.
Do you have pictures?

Tyson looks great! Kids are cute too! Mastiffs continue to grow until 2-3 years of age, slow and steady growth is key to a healthy mastiff. Mastiffs will self-regulate their food intake. Meaning, they will stop eating if it's too warm or if they have an upset belly. How long has he been on his current food? It may be time to change the flavor but remain within the same brand.

As long as he is pottying, playing, and drinking normally, he's fine.

:)thanks I have been switching his flavors trying to mix in some wet food I'm trying to do everything but it's like he doesn't like his dog food anymore he was really good with it at first but we did the mistake of letting him try people food and now he'll sniff his food and walk away from it if it's not people food I tried not feeding him and just leaving the food in the bowl until he eats it and he just gives up like around 8pm or so and finally starts to eat his dry food which is not good for me because I had him eating at seven in the morning .....

Aaahhh...the adding toppers dilemma. Since he's had a taste of people food, guess what, he wants people food every meal. It's a hard habit to break.

Feed him his regular food and put it down for 20 minutes. If he does not eat it, pick it up and save it for the next meal time and add that meal's food to the previous meal's food. Again, down for 20 minutes and back up if he doesn't eat it. He will eat when he's hungry.

As long as he is pottying, drinking water, and playing normally, he will eat when he's hungry. It's usually the humans who give in and give them what they want. Me, personally, I did not mind giving my previous dog's human food and they all lived to be 13 years old.
