Getting used to horses and attacking other dogs

KAISER

We have and Kaiser for a year know and he is attacking my other dogs. They will be just lying down and he will go over to the dogs and start attacking them. I know its not a play thing because the other dog is terrified to move after we get my dog off him. We had mastiffs before who were never like this. Its gotten to the point where My mom is gonna get rid of him if he keeps it up.

Also I live on a farm and would like to get him used to the horses any ideas?
I have been walking him around the fields. twice a day when they are out.

sounds like there may be a verity of factors contributing to his behavior...if you plan on keeping him I would get a trainer quick. I'd be careful with the horses, what kind of a mastiff is he?

I grew up with horses and while they've got varying degrees of tolerance for dogs (and canines in general), it's safest to assume they will view a dog as a potential predator and act accordingly. I had a QH once who tolerated dogs at a distance, but did not appreciate them coming close. I watched him chase a GSD once. The dog wasn't being aggressive at all, just nosing around, but Diamond wasn't having it. Once the dog ran off, he went back to grazing peacefully.

Point being, I've yet to see a dog that would willingly brave four hooves and a mouth like that to harass a horse. They're big damn animals and can easily crush a dog, especially when threatened. Some horses will get along fine with a farm dog, but it's not worth betting the life of either animal. A smart dog will learn fast to stay clear of a horse's hooves, so if you're introducing your dog to horses, have someone hold the horses just in case and keep things face-to-face to avoid a kick.

How old is Kaiser? I see you that you said you have had him 1 year but is that how old he is? When he attacks the sleeping dogs, has he ever drawn blood? What is his relationship with those dogs when they are awake? Do they get along?

I must admit, that it sounds very concerning that he is "attacking" a dog that is showing no threatening signs. I agree with Ripsmom. This sounds like it may be a case that requires professional assistance/intervention.
