Fiona's Spay surgery......?

Alright, you all know Fiona....
She is now about 6.5 months, and 61lbs............ the mystery mutt won't stop growing. ;)

Anyways... the rescue I adopted her from covers her spay and left it up to me when to do it (within a reasonable time of course). I had read for larger dogs to wait until after their first heat and for bone development but I am also NOT prepared for a first heat. The rescue suggested I do it at 16 weeks when I got her rabies shots but I said no and that I wanted to wait until at least after 6months. I have NO clue when she could have her first heat and honestly have no way of managing it...
I went ahead an called to schedule an appt and ask some questions. I made her appt for 2 weeks from now since it is in between her training courses and wont get in the way of attention classes or anything....
She is not a giant breed, I know, but we don't know her mix and I am certain she will be a large dog. You think 7 months will be just fine? I am not toooooo worried about it, just wondering what you all thought.

So why do I feel so uneasy about her surgery?

I did my first Corso at 7 months with no worries.
I am sure she will be fine. There are arguments on both sides, but the bottom line is dealing with a heat cycle sucks. Period.
Lol, Aurora had her first heat at 8 months, and gawd...I am not a fan of them even though she is a clean girl, not much blood, is a PIA.

I dropped Fiona off this morning (7hours ago). Waiting to hear when I can go get her! They are also taking a look at her back paw cuz she has been licking and chewing on it like crazy and something is bothering her.... anyhow. I am ready to bring her home now. haha

My vet has always kept females overnight, I thought that was normal! I'm sure she will be happy to be home.

The vet here does 2 nights, the night before surgery so they are calmer in the morning or they can suck up a ton of tranquilzer and it have no affect and they stay the night they are operated on so that the can be monitored and checked again first thing the next morning. But some get to go home the same day depending on how the surgery is performed. I sure she is good but hope you get to see her soon as I know it is rough.

I dropped her off very early this morning and picked her up nearly 12 hours later. Long enough for surgery and for her to be awake and monitored from her anesthesia. She was sent home with a cone, pain meds and antibiotics.
My biggest concern is her leaving her owie alone while I am sleeping. I don't want to make the monster sleep in a cone, but I think tonight she will likely sleep since she is still partially drugged.

Her surgery went well and the Dr said there shouldn't be an concerns and just to put the cone on if she bothers it.

we shall see.

Glad to hear it went well too! Sleeping in the "cone of shame" wouldn't be horrible for a night or two. They always seem to try so very hard "clean" those wounds. Good luck monitoring her. We will all pray for quick healing :)

She didn't sleep in her cone last night, instead she slept with me so I could feel her movement and keep an "eye" on her. She did fine through the night- aside from her puking in my bed at 830 am after eating her breakfast lol. No puking since and she is eating normal and pretty low key. She has found her wound a couple times but has listened when told to leave it alone. I DID put her cone on her when I left for the gym.... basically she refused to sit or lay down with it on and she stood there for over an hour lol She hates that thing!!! Jeremy ended up waking up to her standing in her crate with her cone on WHINING like crazy. I think the pain meds are keeping her pretty chill.
