Fila in Wa needs rescue options

I briefly met a 2 year old female (intact) Fila at my local shelter in Washington State. She is not a candidate for adoption through the shelter, and they have asked if I can help look for rescue options. If anyone could point me in a good direction, I would appreciate it. I have asked the shelter manager if she has any breeder info on the dog, but have not heard back from her yet on that.

Her name is Lucy. These are the best photos the shelter could take of her....

Gentle Giants has an absolutely horrible reputation as a rescue organization: http://www.gentlegiantnews.com/index.php

There is another Molosser rescue organization in the state. I'll find their contact info after I get off of work. Unfortunately, they might only be taking in Caucasian Ovcharkas now.

I'd offer to take her in, but I'm just not able to take in a Fila at the time being.

wow I had no idea about a bad rep, just searched did a quick search in the west coast. I am sure the OP will do more research on whatever rescue they choose.

Thank you so much for all of the suggestions. A local breeder who also does the occasional rescue was supposed to look at her yesterday..... not sure how it went yet. I'm going to look into any good options there may be.

She is not a good candidate for adoption from the shelter for a couple of reasons.... first of all she's uncomfortable and guarding her space, which makes it hard to handle her. Then there is the fact she's at a public shelter which has very few abilities to screen adopters - she is beautiful which can hurt her when its so easy to walk out with an adopted dog from a shelter. They would rather euthanize than send her into incapable hands and while it sucks, I respect that.

ooh.... you know I got to thinking about it and I have heard of Gentle Giants through the grapevine and it was not such good stuff. Thank you though, I have to start somewhere, and yes absolutely I'll do my research before helping to get her sent anywhere.

What shelter is she in. I work with Rising Phoenix Mastiff Rescue, we work with filas and rare breed mastiffs. I also am in contact with West coast mastiff rescue, and many of FORMS vollunteers.

Thank you, it appears the breeder/rescue will be able to take this girl. I intend to stop back by this week and see her if she has not yet been moved and make sure this option works out for her. Either way I'll update as more info becomes available.
