Dogo Argentina

I saw my first dogo argentina at the dog park last night. All I have to say is WOW! What an awesome dog!
She was a brilliant white and so loving. Topaz (my mastiff mix) ran right up to her and they had a few moments of fun together while I asked the gal what the heck kind of dog she had.
Anyhow - Very beautiful breed! Anyone on here have one?

They are gorgeous and we got the meet some working ones a couple of years ago at a show. The male was awesome! They are still extremely rare here though.

Good dogs. Very hyper though ... very, very, hyper. Probably rivals a working corso (like the lines that Cody has mentioned) in there need to work and keep busy. I know a guy (idiot) that bought a Dogo Argentino for his mother in LA; she wanted a watch dog. Big mistake! He should have got her a pomeranian. The dog is six months and has already jumped out the kitchen window twice due to people walking by the house.

I love the Dogo's. I really appreciate the looks and temperament of the Corso's, but I really, really like those Dogo's. Something about a an all white dog. I believe it's partially because I grew up with an all white Husky and pitbulls (I know, nothing to do with pitys), and I've owned Mastiffs for around 10 years. To me it's a part of these all wrapped into one.

good dogs if you get a good one...I've yet to see a good one, mostly dogs with VERY bad nervous system and/or no drive at all. They are stunning though.

I agree! Out of the ones I have gotten a chance to meet I like the male and that was it. He was calm in a wire crate with a frencie barking in his face all during a show, never once acted out even when charged by a male lab and the owner got blamed for it. But I only saw him the once and he wasn't entered in the show, he was there to watch. The female that was in the ring was skiddish :( But the male was a site to see. The puppy I can't say as I haven't seen him since he was 10 weeks or so old.

I have met a few. One was off the wall, but it was due to a crappy owner who had no idea what he was doing or what he had :(
The other 2 were older and pretty calm, one was hanging out at a pet expo and was pretty calm and disinterested in everyone/thing else.
But was older, so not sure what she was like younger.
I have heard of too many health issues, from the lack of pigment. But they are visually stunning IMO.

My Dogo Gus is 15 months old. I absolutley love the breed. He has had some allergy issues, but we found a food that works well for him. He is great with kids and extremely affectionate. Not "hyper" at all, sleeps most of the day. Thats the first time I have heard anyone say that. I am not calling you a liar, there are bad examples of every breed but that would definately be the exception rather than the rule. Nervous system issues are no more common in a Dogo than any other breed. Deafness is a legitimate issue but because its a genetic problem, they are either born with it or not. Most breeders BAER test to determine if puppies are deaf. And hip dysplasia is a concern as with all large breeds.

This one wasn't hyper either that I could tell. She was walking quietly along with her owner down the trail. Although she could have been warn out too ;) Just such a stunning dog though. That white massive-ness just sucked me right in :)

Wecome Boonfoggin! I've only been exposed to one Dogo and he was very young and it was the wrong person for the dog. There are a couple of Dogo breeders here in Southern California.

Hey boonfoggin, I am in Calgary as well :) I can't see the pictures of Gus for some reason.
Do you do parks? If so let me know, we could maybe meet up, would love to see your boy.
Okay went to the other post and saw your pictures,
STUNNING dog.
Would love to see in person. Both my CC are great with other dogs, would be fun to have a playdate.
