I'm looking to build a new dog house for my mastiff for when he's outside during the day. Has anyone else done this and if so, how big did you build it and how much did you spend?

I have a crazy idea I am working on for my yard. I have a 12'x10' redwood arbor that isn't legal in the city's eyes, so I am going to chop the 4x4 legs in half, add those back to the middle lengths, and basically have a 3' tall deck. On half of it, I am building a "raised bed" style garden box that will be planted with sod - grassy knoll on top, shade underneath. I'll add drip irrigation to the sod and also some spray misters on the underside, to help deal with the LA summer sun. Not sure if I will add any sides to the lower portion or not, we don't have much weather that needs to be kept out.

My Tibetan Mastiffs have some inside access by day via dog-door - moving into a new house this weekend, so we'll be figuring out the proper boundaries for the puppy.
