I cook up meat...usually chicken or ground beef in a crock pot and when done, remove chicken bones, add rice and let it cook in. It makes a week of meals, which I break up with sockeye salmon just to keep it interesting. Sometimes I get stewing beef, and cook up in a fry pan with some butter at a low heat, turning often. Then I add water and let it simmer for a while. Once it has reached a lovely broth with it, I add (just cause I'm weird like that), a little bit of Bisto to thicken up the gravy and boost the taste. She adores this!
Last night I got some thickly cut round steak, and I simmered it as well, cut it into bite size pieces, and thickened the broth with Bisto. I break it up into meal size portions and the Princess goes wild!
She also gets a good quality kibble and her regular treats, which are fortified with vitamins and minerals. Liver treats, Milk Bone Gravy Bones and Marrow Bones, Denta Sticks...the usual with a bully stick thrown in for good behaviour and as a hedge against boredom...especially now during isolation.
When we have sausages, I make one for her, too. And when busy, I buy a cooked chicken from Metro. I like theirs better than Costco's which don't feel well enough cooked for my liking. Generally, I go to rice for a combination rather than a potato, but it all does the same thing, makes it thicker and more satisfying for them. Occasionally, I mix some mixed veg in, but it isn't her favourite. We had a Beagle once that loved beef stew, and we'd give him a bowl. That dog would lick it so clean that you wouldn't know that it had been used, except for one small clue: all of the peas were licked clean, but left there in silent protest. Nothing green passing that dog's lips, he was a meat and potato type of hound.
