Does your puppy "back talk" you?

Does your puppy "back talk" you?

We normally sit on the floor so we can play with Kenzi. But almost every night she turns into crazy puppy and she lunges at us and starts biting. We try to redirect her with toys, but she just wants to bite us. So then we get up and sit on the sofa. At that point she tries to jump on the sofa to get to us which lands her in puppy time out for a few minutes. After time out we try to play with her again. Now that we know she's in lunging/biting mode we catch her before she lunges and tell her "NO!"
Then she gets into play stance and starts baking at us like crazy. I swear she is trying to tell us off. Does anyone else's puppy try to tell them off?

Gio does the exact same thing! We call it the "zoomies" because he will zoom around the house, barking, jumping, biting anything or anyone he can find. It must be their final burst of energy before bed.

Kenzi always does it when she's ready for bed too! I hope she grows out of this soon.

Barron got this way when he was hungry. We usually got him to sit and than reward him with a snack..usually a little less than 1/4 cup of food. After he was done eating he would settle down and sleep. this is just what worked for us.

Our Gia does the same thing but she is getting better.

Sometimes I wonder if I got a Corso or a Husky with the way my dog whines. Around 7PM my Lianna either turns into the Tasmanian Devil and runs around like crazy or becomes a furry alligator nipping at everything. She recently got her last combo vaccine so yeah, homegirl has been getting more walks to the local park lately where she can drain that excess energy so she can be easier to handle in the house.

Betsy does this too. I say she's being sassy and it happens after dinner but before bedtime.
My boys are 10 and 8 and they like to run with her. They're fast enough and strong enough to get her off of them. Unfortunately, my 4 year old daughter is neither fast or strong and she's got the bite marks to prove it! I keep telling her to leave the pup alone and off she goes playing chase with the pup. This is where we have given her the name, "sweet little demon!" She's getting better about it already and we have now downgraded the nickname to "naughty angel" lol.

Boy. I thaught that I was the only one who picked a firecracker...Gypsy was a coo-coo head from 50 days old! She had the zoomies after the clock struck 8:15pm EVERY night...my husband and I would rush to tuck her in by 8:10pm...geez... she would even chomp down so hard that we could hear her jaws snap like a snapping turtle when we pointed and said "no". I am so glad that I don't speak Mastiff because that little one cussed like a sailor!! Oh...did I forget to mention the jeans shredding, aligator rolling, and my favorite...the stink eye. She was a B R A T. Now she is 8 months old... and with lots of obedience classes a super good girl...most of the time.:)

Talk back? Boone STARTS most of the conversations. Only with him, they start whenever he's awake! AND, if we do not respond in "doggy" language, the volume just keeps going up till we do. He's not a barker, though, more of a whiner. He'd bark to respond only when we ask him what he wants to eat :razzberry:

No nipping now (after three long months of correction), he'll pick up his toy to chew on before coming to us to play, but oh the talk! Zoomies at night most definitely, especially if you've just come out of the shower. It seems to be progressing as he grows up, almost like he loves the sound of his own voice!

He'll stop if we ask him to, though :)

Denna also will resort to a bark - often a really loud, high-pitched variety - if she doesn't get our attention when she asks for it... You can tell when she's about to 'speak' (a command she learned in 2 minutes, LOL) - because her lips start to curl, so we can tell her "no" calmly before it happens, and since she has our attention at that point, she complies. :)

Krazy4Kenzi - how old is Kenzi? I have said the exact same thing about my 7 month old Cane Corso. He seems to "lash" out when he is tired. He will jump up and bite at me part way through the walk. The other day we were playing in the back yard and all of a sudden it is like a switch was flipped. He started to jump up on me and when I tried to fold my arms and walk away, he started biting at my arms. I finally got him in the house and he was asleep literally one minute later. I feel like his tantrums are related to him being tired. OH WHY CAN'T THEY TALK?!?!

Cblond1121- Kenzi is 3 months. I guess this means I have at least 4 more months of this behavior to look forward to.

My trainer will be here in 20 minutes to go over this "issue". I will share what I learn so you can nip it in the bud early!

Oh yes please share! Because I have a 5 month old that gets " the zoomies" every evening... And also at least once during the day... Just running around like a crazy loon and snapping like an alligator at anything and everything (not aggressively tho) but he is just like an alligator or snapping turtle lol... And just wild and crazy just like some of you have said, like a switch goes off in thier head or something and then it's game on crazy time haha!

We love him to pieces and he is such a good boy and I wouldn't part with him for anything, BUT, does this behavior ever go away? Like, do they grow out of it??

When we bought our pup the breeder did warn me that this breed has something he called "the crazy corso hour", usually between dinner and 8:00 PM or so.. our otherwise loveable, mild mannered pup goes coocoo for an hour or so and chases us and our kids runs in circles, he rarely gets to0 rough, we keep him in check, crazy corso hour or not.. but yea, it happens every night.

LOL, I think there's definitely something that goes on in our dog's heads that tell them to just go craaaazy between 6-8PM, like a boost of energy out of nowhere. I met a guy that bought her sister from the same litter while at obedience class and he said the same thing. It's like clockwork for mine. Before I bring her in the house I take her for a walk, if she starts doing her Tasmanian Devil impression while inside then I just take her outside to let her get it out of her system. I'll literally stand there and watch her run a canine version of suicide drills about three or four times, just back and forth. After she has had enough she'll pass out like a drunk at Mardi Gras.

Ah yes, the first time this happened I was awestruck. Now, its normal, around 20:00 or so. The family has learned to just sit down and ignore Percy, and I set out some water. The zooms don't last too long now, but it is pretty amusing.
