diarrhea almost 2 weeks

So we finally found dog food that Spartacus would eat and he has been having diarrhea for almost 2 weeks. He is now crying when he poops for the first time and his tushy seems red. (I made an appt for the vet this afternoon)

I thought that the diarrhea would just be temp. since we were trying to find him the correct food but him crying when pooping did it for me. Any suggestions on what I should do first or just go straight to the vet? I am also wondering if I should continue to feed him this.

thanks in advance.

Well two things come to mind. One: many mastiffs have issues with chicken in their food and two you switched foods a lot in a short amount of time.

He may like the food but the food must not agree with his system. Time for rice and bland meat. Hope the vet gives him a clean bill of health.

My vet told me that changing lots of kinds of kibble in a short time might lead to that, so i think it's normal and i wouldn't worry...once you find something that he likes and that is effectively good for his system and growth as well, keep going with that !

Try giving him a few spoonfuls of plain unsweetened yogurt or canned real pumpkin for a few days. (not the pie filling pumpkin) it'll help firm him up. I am just now in the process of switching to the Nature's Variety Instinct Rawboost. But I'm using the other flavors and not the chicken.

Thanks guys. I have switched him to TOW Sierra Mountain and he appears that the diarrhea is slowly leaving his system...

This might have been said but have you tried putting pumpkin in his food? You don't want too much I think like a teaspoon per meal maybe even less for him but now that hes eating that should firm him up. Glad to hear its slowly getting better.

Our 4mo old CC has had diarrhea off and on (more on) since we got him. We tried pumpkin, rice, hamburger, chicken, nothing helped. Then we switched him to a grain-free all fish protein kibble and it immediately corrected it.
