Hanna had to have a c-section on Oct 25th due to stuck puppy. We lost two but had six healthy pups! 3 males 3 females. The largest pup weighed 17oz. and the smallest female 13oz.
5 out of 6 already have forever homes. The last female is ours.

When we got home with Hanna all medicated, she did not accept the pups at first and refused to nurse. It took my husband and I both to hold her down and put the pups on her one by one. We had to do that every two hours for the first day and half.
Also, since Hanna was a first time mom, she also did not clean the pups until day three. So, we were stuck with potty duty after each nursing. Wiping each pup with a soft wet cloth until they pottied (pups are born not knowing how to potty).
Then the pups went into their warming box. This was a plastic bin with a towel inside and a heating pad underneath the bin. A towel draped over the top helped keep out drafts.
Here is a pup in the box.
As the first week came to an end, the pups had doubled their birth weight. Hanna was nursing on her own and cleaning the pups. Our whelping box has removeable guard rails to help prevent accidental squishings - but I still worry - and I monitored the nursings for the first two weeks.
Pups at one week old. Weighed about 2 lbs. each.
After two weeks pups were 4 lbs! We were feeding Hanna twice her normal amount of dry food, PLUS our homemade wet food (deer, rice, veggies), PLUS 2 cups of milk, PLUS 1 cup cottage cheese DAILY. And she still lost weight nursing these pups!
