Do your dogs wear any sort of collar at home? We have never been using any at home. He goes in and out of the crate (to sleep) quite a lot, and we can‘t supervise him all day, so not taking any risks. I know quite a few people whose dogs wear collars all the time (mostly the choke chain types). I don‘t see any benefit, other than people might have to break up a dog fight or rough play. Any thoughts?

We have to in order to stop the dog from going crazy at certain times. So we do have her name collar that now we leave on as she is in hyper mode most of the time. Its the 2 inch nylon collar below the prong. Not all the time but very often now. She is the first dog I have had to do that with, otherwise no collars before. nessaatvets2.jpg

We only use Lettie collar when we go outside. Inside we take it off most of the time and in her crate we take it off 100% of the time. One time, when she was a puppy, she was napping in the crate with the door open. I walked in the room and saw her collar tags were caught on the crate. She didn’t noticed and I just untangled her. From then on we made a rule to NEVER put he in her crate with her collar on.

Also when they are puppies they get their bottom jaw under the collar and it can kill them. It keeps there mouth open and it chokes them in minutes. We caught it just in time with a bandana on one of the poodles, very scary. The bandana came with her as a puppy and not knowing we left it on as it looked cute, thankfully we caught it right away.

Mine do wear their collars at home. Typically they only
come off for baths and when Kryten gets his Cartrophen injection. They do have quick release buckles in case anything should happen but nothing ever has and recently I've been able to confirm that they are very lazy when no one is home/a wake.

Mine wear them in the house. I don't allow rough housing inside, and they have quick release buckles just in case. No collars in a crate. They also come off when they play outside.

Millie wears hers all the time but we don’t have a crate at all..... if we did we would take it off. At the moment it only comes off when we bath her or when the collar is covered in mud and needs a clean!

My two babies, Chev the Mastiff and Coal the Lab wear collars all the time. I put the Sprang collar on Chev before we walk due to his tendency to pull....the collar works well without hurting the dog. My wife prefers the waterproof collars, which do not absorb "doggie smell" like the cloth collars. Pic is Mr. Cheevers on our walk last evening...and thankfully, no snow to walk. My dogs like to eat some grass...is this common ???through. Chev looks.jpg

We do at home "naked doggies." When the collars come out....oh boy!!! Fun is about to happen!!

Jake wears his collar with his ID tags all the time, it's a breakaway collar so I'm not too worried about it getting stuck. I have a martingale collar that we only slip on when we are going for a walk, I don't leave that on him at all.

Denna runs around NAKED, too. (lucky animal!)

The collars are on when ever we leave the house, though. Flat collar with quick release and tags, cotton slip collar to attach the leash to (early on, she would back out of the flat collar, so we went to the slip, and that works well for us).

When camping, she wears her flat collar all the time, except at night when sleeping (and we're there with her), then she's naked in the RV, too.

no collars on my dogs (I have two). They play in the front yard with no leashes and I don't have fence but...constant supervision by the owner.
For a walk I use slip on leash and it works for me.
