Cane Corsos and vacation

Hi! We are seriously considering a cane corso to join our family.

I’m home everyday... my only concern is vacations. I know that cane corsos love their families. What I don’t know for sure is how they will be if we take a 2 week vacation. Any insight appreciated.

My MIL does live down the street so didn’t know if the dog would

Every dog is different. No possible way of telling until you purchase your dog and see what it is like first hand.

Best bet is to socialize your dog with a responsible friend or family member. To the point where the person can handle the dog as their own. Then offer to pay them rather than a boarding kennel.

All going to depend on your dog's personality.
I.e. if they get separation anxiety. How clingy they are. And how you socialize or train the dog.

My sister comes in to look after mine when we are going away or we don't go. Not many board kennels are open to CC here and especially intact ones so it is just easier to have in-home care

If you can work with your MIL so she's an known part of the family as your puppy grows, she should be on the "in" crowd for vacation coverage.

Denna never hit that anti-social switch, so she can still go to a boarding facility with doggie daycare (when her knee's healed, which is looking good!).
Otherwise, we have a good friend of the family that she LOVES come stay at the house with her. She also has a dog-walker that's helped us from day 1 with her, so she's also one of the "family" and can stop by anytime to help with potty breaks and walks.

The more people you can have around as the puppy grows, the more likely you'll have some good "in" people for vacation coverage.

I agree, make sure she LOVES your mother-in-law from day one. Our girl is 11 months old and already distrustful of strangers. But we made sure to spend a lot of time with close family when she was a puppy. My boyfriends parents (grandma and grandpa to her) are the only people that can come over to take care of her when we are gone. She LOVES them! We can’t even say “grandma and grandpa” with out her getting excited and looking for them. We left her alone with them often when she was a pup and they are on the same page with training. We make sure they know all the correct command words and her feeding schedule. She respects them. Anyone else I’m not sure could handle her. I certainly could never board her or let anyone else into the house without one of us being present.
