Cane Corso War Stories

ewlizbat and jersey girl...awesome stories (sorry you got scared though jersey). I got my CC in part because I have two young daughters (7 and 12) and I wanted them to be able to feel safe wherever they take the dog. I already know my little Dozer has good guard drive...when he was 17 weeks old, he went to a friends house with my wife while she was back in AZ. He was friendly to everyone until she went to the bathroom to take a shower...then he sat at the door and tried his best to muster a big boy growl to anyone that got near the door...haha. He is a little more refined now...

Wow, your boy did his job for sure and I am glad your family is okay. I had a strange situation happen a while ago at the park. I was walking around the lake with Crickett and there was a man sitting on a park bench. We walked past him and he got up and began to walk behind us. I kept walking along the path and the man kept following...all was normal until he started to growl at Crickett. As soon as she heard the growling she turned around and postured with her tail and hackles up. He began to make strange gestures with his hand while growling and barking at her and he was also hunched over. Well, I could not move her, she began bark, and it was a different sounding bark than I had ever heard. I yelled at the guy and told him to stop, but he ignored me. I knew something was off about this guy. I tried to walk away, but Crickett was simply too strong and she would not back down. I got nervous because the man was moving closer, I was afraid for him in all honesty. Well her barking caused a bunch of attention. I then heard a woman yelling at me..."I'm sorry, I'm sorry, he is with me" I was confused until she explained she worked for a adult mental health facility and this patient wondered off. I was like WTF lady...you lost your patient??!! I couldn't believe it. I began to leave the park and a man sitting in his car said to me "you have a good protector there." I realized I did, but in the heat of the moment it was stressful and all I could think of was if my dog bites this guy it's gonna be my fault. My husband always wondered if she had it in her....I now have no doubts.
Cricket sounds like a little name for a dog with such a big presence. These dogs are so sweet to us, but underneath they are steel and determination and all business. They are unlike any dog I have ever known. Your girl sounds like a warrior princess, ready for action. How old is she?

Not really a war story but...right after i adopted Corelina and she had her puppies(Titan & his 5 brothers & sisters) my Ex wanted to stop by to see them so i told him it was ok since we were on good terms. I was in the master bathroom with her and the puppies when i heard him open the front door to my house so i started walking towards the bathroom door and she walked in between me and the door and started growling real low and wouldn't let me by, when i finally got around her and reached for the door knob she pushed my hand away from it a few times. I kept telling her it was Ok but she didn't stop growling. He never said a word but she knew he was outside of the door, needless to say he only got to see the puppies from a distance!! LOL Very protective mother...only me and my mom were ever allowed to be around her and her puppies at the same time!!!

The new pup and my other dog are mostly visual deterrents.

On once occasion before I got married, I didn't life in a great section and my fiance was walking my dog. When a group of punks came around a corner, I'm not sure that were looking for trouble but the site of 125lb dog without an ounce of fat on him was enough to make them cross the street. My old boy Like to flash hits pearly whites. Most times he was just smiling but a few times he was sending a message.

He was externally protective of my wife and daughter, a gentle giant, with the ability to do extensive damage. He never did, he never had too.
He was simply and amazing animal.

Close call

Mattress delivery man comes to the door my house is real quite I'm changing a light fixture in the dinning room kids outside and I thought my CC was in the back also until I waved the delivery man in no sooner did the door close behind him when I heard biggie jump off the bed on the second floor and come charging luckily the delivery just made it out but the door didn't close he needed to hd it shut until I talked biggie down. Once cooled down and I physically opened the door to let the man in biggie was extremely friendly.
I believe it all has to do with me letting someone I. Or someone just walking in.

Great posts here.I've probably read every word.

It also brings to mind a couple of things. One of these,is that with the sampling amount here, of CC's showing protectiveness/sense of duty/doing its job....this seems to fly in the face of those who say things like, "Working CC breeders are rare" "lack of drive" "Ch.Shows are dulling them"..sure you've heard these and variations...and worse:(

The other thing,is that in most all of these examples....the dog was OFF-leash in dangerous situations, and yet.....they all stopped with just the voice command of their leader. You folks should be proud of that, shows respect of leadership in the dog. If you know your dog listens to you...you live with your Corso and enjoy it....... & don't have to live in fear of "Liability" as some owners post up.

Each of these posts can/should be viewed as training sessions. Each person that has one here, has learned what and how their Corso reacts and thinks...so, any future encounters are then even more sharply honed to the degree of protectiveness you require of your Corso. I like how nobody here is scared by their CC's behavior and instead explain how they shape their behavior. Great owners here,Good forum.

Thank you...she is the best dog I have ever owned. She will be 2 on Halloween :) Crickett is a different name for sure, she was 16 weeks old when we got her form our breeder, we were going to change her name, but she knew it already so we went with it. It's grown on us.

Well my Cane and I were walking through our neighborhood when two teens "thugs with pants down low" approached from a distance with a Pit bull that looked like it was on steroids. It was tugging on its lead and the chain collar was damn near choking it as it was trying to lunge toward us. I decided to walk a little more over to give these thugs and their "bad boy" dog some room. As they got closer one said and I quote 'hey bro wasz kinda dog is dat"? I said from a distance its a Italian mastiff. He than asked how old as the other stood and smoked a cigerette. I said she is 10 mths and she is still a pup. He said "oh dats cool but not sure what kinda dog dat is" So I thought to myself should I educate the two teens or should I just move on. Ive learned people with pits are great owners most of the time, but, when two thugs are allowing the dog to lunge growl and act like a crazy dog i decided to keep walking. As I said "ok have a great day I gotta run home for dinner the pit bull tugged at the lead and pulled the teen closer to us. He than said "oh wait lets see how my boy acts near her" i said no gotta go. Within seconds and all happening so fast it jumped and grabbed my corso's neck. Honor is her name. I freaked and again happeining so fast I went to pull Honor back but she did the rest heres what happened.
1. the pit grabbed her neck
2. I yelled what the F!@#
3. I went to pull Honor back
4. Honor turned her head to the side
5.she pulled her head away and snapped at the pits face
6. she grabbed the pits nose with her bottom canine
7. she latched on and started to pull the dog backwards as blood starting to show on the pits nose and mouth area
8. I grabbed Honor by the back hair and said let go, let go and she listened to me

So Im now worried that what happened is my Cane Corso gonna be always alert and ready to attack now, or does she know that she was just doing her job when she was first attacked??

I do have to say though that deep down inside im proud of my 10mth old cane putting a whoop a!@ on a dog that attacked her for no darn reason. She walked away with me on the lead as if nothing ever happened and the two teens where kinda shoked as well. I told them in a smart ass voice, you should control your fisher price pit bull and have a nice day Please tell me she WILL NOT have dog aggression now as she never has and LOVES other animals including.....wait for it, wait for it cats n birds
