Cane Corso in Kansas City needs help

Little Monster

Well-Known Member
Her name is Masha, she is just over 2 years old, only 3 months younger than my boy, Ickis. I was walking Ickis and Crumb and a friend of mine in Animal Control drove by and saw us so got out to say hello. Then she spoke the magic words, "If you know anyone that wants a pair of Neos, we got some at the shelter that need a home fast." So, of course, my husband and I drove out there just as soon as it was open and we met them. Masha and Anastacia, they weren't Neos at all! Just Corsos with natural ears! They were beautiful! They were as happy as could be because their owner was there to walk them. You see, the primary care giver of these girls is the wife. A few days before, she and her husband were arguing and escalated into a physical argument and when he raised his cane to hit her, the girls couldn't take it. He fell out of his chair and was bitten in the leg. Immediately, the girls felt awful. What else could they have done? They were protecting their owner from a threat. He immediately had them surrendered to the shelter where (despite current Rabies Vaccinations) they had to suffer through a rabies quarantine and afterwards were to be euthanized - since they could not be adopted out. I could not tolerate this. Why should they be punished for doing what they are supposed to do? They went from having a bed in every room in the house to sitting in cement runs. They both got very sick. They had a liquid bloody diarrhea that was so bad, the moisture from their bloody stool cause a moist dermatitis (or moist infection) on their no-no special place. It was awful. They stopped eating and started with the lethargy. Then, they got hit with a horrible upper respiratory infection. As soon as their quarantine was up, I took them directly to the isolation ward at the vet clinic. They needed some help into my car because they were so weak, but we got them in. I lined the back of my Jeep with blankets and towels and, for what seemed like the first time in weeks, they both closed their eyes and rested so peacefully for the drive to the vet. Since then, I have had them treated for their bloody diarrhea and upper respiratory infection. I was hoping to have them spayed, but they flunked their blood work, Anastacia, Masha's litter mate, had a white blood cell count so high, it was suspicious that she was starting to get pneumonia. Anastacia was able to go back to her home, hopefully to continue to protect her owner, but only 1 was allowed to return. Masha stays in my custody and today I moved her to The Pet Connection. It is a 501(c)3 rescue organization that works with behavior problem dogs. Masha is going to be spending a few weeks there while she is rehabilitated. She has some issues with strangers which is to be expected of the breed. She also deals with some dog aggression and even a little separation anxiety. I think taking her sister from her has been a very difficult thing for her. Once she knows you, she is nothing but tail wags and sloppy kisses. She is a doll! After all I have put into her with her medical bills, I need help with financing her boarding the with The Pet Connection. They are allowing her to stay with them, they are feeding her a high quality food such as Orijen or Acana and will be socializing her more and figuring her out better while she stays. Once she has recovered physically and emotionally from all this trauma, she will need to be spayed. Her expenses have reached past my 'allowance' for rescue and I need help paying for her now. The Pet Connection is a not for profit organization so all donations are tax deductible. Even if you can only give $10, that's another day of rehabilitation that she needs. You can make donations directly to The Pet Connection online at www.thepetconnection.net or mail donations to 5918 Broadmoor Mission, KS 66202. Checks should have "Masha" written on the memo so those funds can be put towards her. Thanks a head of time for any support, every little bit helps.Riding to KCVC small.jpgMasha small.jpg
