"Blue's" progress thread

I picked up a Neo that was in bad shape. Her name is Blue, but I'm going to change it. She's a little Neo and only weighs 75lbs. She's underweight, but I don't see her weighing much more than 95lbs (maybe less) when she puts weight back on. She's missing fur, has bites that are healing on her face and legs, and has scabs all over her. She has kennel cough too so we're keeping her away from the other dogs.

Night 1 was spent bathing her and pulling ticks. Now we're just letting her decompress. I'm not sure how she's going to do with the other dogs yet. I'm nervous because she's obviously been attacked by another dog and may be on the defensive. She's great with my little boy although I'm letting her come to him and not letting him run up to her just yet. She doesn't seem to be nervous around him at all and has passed the "ear/tail tug" test.

She's a little aggressive with her food though, but I'm not surprised because she's been malnourished for who knows how long. She saw the other dogs eating, ran up to the window and started growling at them for their food. Other than that she doesn't growl when she sees them.

I'm not sure if she's a poorly bred purebred or a mix, but they told me that her owners said she wasn't mixed. She's really short though.

The pictures don't really do a good job of showing just how thin she is. You can plainly see every rib from across the room and her waist just caves in.

She is a beautiful dog. Can't wait to see her when you get her to a healthy weight.

We introduced her to our dogs one by one today and she is absolutely petrified of them. She crouches down, pees herself, and shakes... But she doesn't growl or anything. Slowly but surely... We'll get there with her.

That is so sad. Im so happy she ended up a with knowledgeable patient family. Only makes me wonder what her life was like before.

Bless you for taking her in.
I am finding out just how much work
a poorly treated rescue can be.
And also just how much they give back.

Thank you for posting pics of the girl, she's looking so different from the shelter pics. She cleans up nice!

Thank you, Kimbersmama, for having the patience and knowledge to help this girl, Miss Stella!

She's a time bomb when it comes to the other dogs. She'll do well for hours then snap. She's very very territorial over food and the water bowl!

You've only had her for about a week or 2, she's still stressed from the environmental change. Did she share a cage at the shelter? If she did, that could be the reason for the resource guarding. At the shelter I volunteered at, they had 3-4 dogs per cage which caused resource guarding.

She needs more time and training.

If I remember correctly. She was placed in the shelter due to food aggression with her sister.
But I am sure in the hands of her new family she will turn out just perfect.
Sounds to me like her and her sisťer were left to grow and learn on their own.
Kimbersmama, did you happen to get more info on her then what was on the shelters ad?
