Thanks everyone for the kind comments for Fizzy. I hope to check out whether the pregnant vet is still working there next week and get this re-assessed. These growths are cropping up on various parts of her - so the original diagnosis I think is very wrong and this vet does not like being disagreed with.

Please consider giving Benadryl and Tagamet. I've seen some really good results from that protocol and it's not harmful. The link I posted has a lot of convincing pics and info.

Thanks Boxergirl - this is definitely worth mentioning when I get to see a different vet - hopefully next week.

Fizzy and myself are booked on ferry to see the vet tomorrow. She had a really bad night - nothing to do with the black lumps - but yesterday chased a wild kitten and suffered the consequences last night and this morning. A lot of huffing and puffing in the night and unable to go far today on morning walk. Joints playing up big time so hopefully these can be assessed at the same time as the black growths.

I had booked Fizz in last Thursday - but the ferry staff are working to rule so the ferry did not run. I took her in yesterday and thankfully saw a different vet She, at my request has taken a needle sample and I should have the result at the end of the week. I have been given some Tramadol to give her too - - she is licking her front joints as her front legs are now taking the toll of her DM and they are very swollen. I am not sure how safe Tramadol is but prefer it to caprodyl as a pain killer. She also has some strange bald patches on her face that have been there for a year plus. She told me these are likely to stay as the follicles seemed dead and that she could suggest nothing to help. She thought the lump was just a cyst and that the other little black tick lumps are more of the same larger one. I will feel happier knowing whether these are nasty or benign and will post an update when I get it.

I'm glad they're checking on the lumps. Poor Fizzy. In my experience, Tramadol is one of the safer pain meds. I'm also just going to toss this out there, so please don't think I'm insane - Turmeric. Yes, the kitchen spice. It's good for inflammation. A google search will bring up a lot of info on it. I've used it not for arthritis, but a different type of inflammation in one of my boxers and it helped a lot. It should be safe to use in conjunction with Tramadol.

Just for long term thinking, somewhere I have a picture of a sling on a moving bar attached to the ceiling that my friend built for his boy with DM so that he could eat by himself at his raised food dishes. He had a lot of tricks that helped Zack live a fairly active life for several years longer than the vets predicted. If there's any information that you need I'd be happy to get in contact with him at any time. My DM boy's heart gave out before the DM really affected him, so I don't have that much experience. Gentle hugs to Fizzy.

thanks again Boxergirl - I def do not think you insane about suggesting Turmeric - I have been toying around with doing this but just was not sure if it was okay for dogs as I know a lot of what works for us humans can be harmful to them. I have been taking it myself for almost a year and it is a remarkable supplement. I take it post acupuncture treatment for sciatica and for chest congestion - it works amazingly. So to hear it is okay to give Fizzy I will definitely try her on it. As for feeding Fizz - I am letting her eat on her own sofa as she not too comfortable standing in one position - this seems to work ok but the offer of any hints is indeed very kind. It is nice to know that she others interested in her well being

Verdict - Fizzy has a melanoma which is recommended being removed. It could be removed under local anaesthetic which is quite good but I am going to hold back on this decision as her front leg joints are giving her such grief at present - they are bothering her way more than the lump. She is panting and unable to get comfortable in the evening - the front legs simply won't take any weight and she licks her knee joint constantly only giving up after giving her a pain killer kicks in - or that is what it seems to me. I am getting quite concerned about her now. Maybe now the winter is on its way the arthritis set in and has come to be the more serious issue after all although the vet said the growth could spread.

I'm so sorry. Sometimes there is no clear right or wrong decision, and that makes it so much harder. Whatever you decide to do will be the right decision for Fizzy because it will be made out of love.

My beloved Fizz was taken from me last evening - although she had several other health issues nothing prepared me for the sudden loss due to bloat. I miss her so much I can't think straight.
