We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

Beware of so called rescue!

I adopted a Boerboel from Rising Phoenix Mastiff Rescue in Yakima, WA on Monday, September 3, 2012. When we met him, we were asked to meet the people with him in a closed down restaraunt parking lot. When we got there, the woman had a few dogs with her. I witnessed her slap a boxer mix puppy in the face and tell her to shut up because she was barking. She was just excited. Needless to say, this made me raise my eyebrows. When our dog finally got there, we noticed he was limping. When we asked why, we were told that is just how he walks. Also, his eyes were oozing and we asked about that as well. We were told that he was allergic to the smoke from the fires in the area. They told us that he was 3-5 years old, he was listed as a young dog and had puppy pictures on his ad on Petfinder. He was a sweet boy so we decided to take him home.
By the time we got home, we noticed that his limp had gotten worse. By the second day, his paw was swollen and red and oozing. We contacted the "rescue" and they told us he was well cared for and that there was nothing wrong with him when he left. He is now having to be sedated and have his paw cared for, along with a course of antibiotics because of the infection. He can hardly walk. They refuse to take responsibility. All his paws are in horrible shape, his nails are broken past the quick, his canine teeth are all broken off, he has earmites and fresh scabs from dog bites. When I confronted the owner with this, she got nasty with me and told me to get off my stool and try to do her job.
We took or boy to the vet and had him scanned for a microchip since she gave us conflicting information on whether or not he had one and would not send any information. We called Home Again to get what information we could. We found out that he is not 3-5 years old but more than 8! He was born in July of 2004.
This woman had him since at least December of 2011. She said she had no way of knowing how old he was. We found out in 10 minutes. Also, she would never give me her name. I had to find out through a third party.
There are MANY MANY complaints about this place on ZooToo, RipOffReport, BBB, the sheriff and the Humane Society. You can google them and find a ridiculous amount.
The issues that our sweet boy has were all due to neglect. They could have all been avoided or easily treated. Instead, they were ignored and he is a hurting, sick boy right now. We are now having to fork out money for vet bills that should have been taken care of by Rising Phoenix. They also lied about his age and health and charged us a ridiculous $350 for an old, sick dog.
I just want to warn people about this terrible place. We have lodged complaints with the BBB, the sheriff, Humane Society, RipOffReport, Petfinder and here. There is an open investigation with the sheriffs department into them. If you have had a bad experience...REPORT THEM!!! Stay away from Rising Phoenix Mastiff Rescue in Yakima, WA!!!!
We love our boy and are glad we got him away from that horrible place!!!

This rescue has been a topic of a few discussions on this forum. This rescue should be shut down because she doesn't take care of the dogs and charges outrageous fees. If you do a search for this rescue, you'll see a few posts. A few people are contacting the sheriff's department to lodge complaints.

Thank you for rescuing another baby from that horrible woman.

The woman who owns this rescue should die.

I am hoping that someone shuts this rescue down. There is a post in the rescue section on this rescue and everything she has done. Glad that your boy is with you.

This has been going on for a very very long time, she started off with filas in early 2000 or maybe even earlier and then seemed to branch off into other breeds, my question is how can something that is well know to everyone go on for as long as it has, all kinds of authoritys know what a disgusting rescue it is , WHY WHY WHY is this rescue still operating???

I should dig through the old yahoo groups and find some of the crap she was involved with back then, very sad when this person has been doing this to people for the past 10-12 years and no one seems to be able to shut her rescue down, what is up with that????? Its not like there is a lack of evidence about her practises and the way she handles herself as a rescue.

I was thinking the exact same thing. So many people are aware and yet nothing has been done, and I am sure all of her past clients will agree with the harsh treatment of the rescued dogs and the pain so many families have endured due to this woman, hopefully Karma has it's way with her soon!!

I have just tried to call the Yakima County Sheriff's office and she called Tricia Porter and we were redirected to another number, the Union Gap Police Dept. Sounds a little fishy to me. We adopted Buster a Boerboel from Rising Phoenix on August 26th, he was orginally in Port Angeles. This is a link an album on my facebook. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.4364408424445.176329.1114910389&type=1&l=9c89251693
Please look at these pictures of him prior to going to Rising Phoenix and the day after we got him. He also has agression issues, which he did not have before. He's a very sweet boy who didn't deserve to be treated like this. I hope something can be do so that no dogs have to go through this.

How do we stop this woman? Do you think if we all emailed the sheriff's office in support of these dogs and they are overwhelmed with emails from around the country, they will do something? This has gone beyond ridiculous!

Mountainfila, if you dig up the old posts from the yahoo groups, I'll email both sheriff's offices. I think we should all email them and overwhelm them. No one has been able to convince the sheriff's office that his woman needs to be hung and the dogs do not have a voice. What about the SPCA?

I have started a facebook group and called it awareness group. I know the close down Rising Phoenix Mastiff Rescue was closed on Facebook for some reason but maybe an awareness group will stay up and people can get their stories posted. I noticed that you see more movement when there is a facebook connection, although I have no idea why. Just sad that this rescue is still operating but maybe we can get people posting who have adopted more than just a mastiff breed. http://www.facebook.com/groups/472620589439285/

I'm sorry to hear about Buster and to see those pictures. On the Rising Phoenix facebook page, there are pictures of Buster the Boerboel in his new home and how wonderful he is and how wonderful Risiing Phoenix is. Not sure if you posted those there or if it was a fake post by rising phoenix.

I do not have facebook. I'll do some research and once I email the authorities, I will post both yours and Rising's facebook links. Is that ok?

I did put a couple of pictures on at first, we were just so happy to have him in our home. I started actually doing more research into when his injuries occurred after I read about the Boerboel this thread was created about. I felt if I had pictures of Buster prior to him going to Rising Phoenix and after we got him that it might do some good. I remember seeing the pictures of the other Boerboel, and I would of never guessed him to be 8 years old by the pictures. I hope we can all work together to get her shut down and the dogs that are still there to a better place.

Sign me up to help in any way I can!
I'm only a 3 hour drive away in the Seattle area...

We looked at some puppies (mastiff/bernard crosses) they were "rescuing" before we got our EM. They were very slow at responding to emails, and hard to contact via phone, too. I thought it was odd at the time, and the more I learn, the worse it gets.

DennasMom, I'm working on bullet points to send to Yakima and Union Gap Police. I want to check facebook for anything to do with Rising Phoenix but I do not have a facebook page. Could you search facebook?

Do you know where the rescue is located? Have you visited the rescue in the past? Do you know of anyone else in the area who has dealt with them?

I appreciate the help... :) BTW, what is your first name?

I finally bit the bullet and joined facebook. I found Rising Phoenix Mastiff Rescue and liked them. Kathy, I sent you a friend request. Poor Buster...

I requested to join the awareness group.

Hi MusicDeb - my first name is Tina. And, I am on FaceBook... but I see you are now, too. I'll probably see you on the awareness group postings. They have some horrific stories posted there. We never did visit the rescue - it sounds like they always meet people at a public location that is "more convenient" for the adopters, instead of meeting on site at the resue groups place... yeah, conveniently hiding the living conditions from the adopters... I don't know of any other people who adopted from them. The awareness group on FB seems to be a good place to share experiences, though.

I am not able to find the awareness group but I would like to take some part. Can someone tell me the whole name to search?
