We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.
Oh god she is stunning! I would love a TM, they are my next favourite!! sadly our property has a lot of grasses with seeds and would hate to think if we missed one while brushing and it got imbedded in the skin ( which I have hesrd can happen) How do you go with her fur?
Nerdybirdy: I know of several TM owners in Aus, a few on here and some elsewhere via the TM community, and at least one of whom runs the dogs as LGDs on their multi-acre property. Their coats, in general, shed alot of that debris that can cause other dogs problems. Including seeds and the like. You certinally would want to brush over such dogs regularly, but unless they're shedding a weekly brush is more than enough.
Aw thanks all. I don't check this very often so sorry to take so long to get back.
For the gal that was worried about the fur, honestly it is SO low-maint. And I take her out in the woods as often as possible. Never have any problems with it. I try to brush her regularly but more to avoid the dred locks behind the ears. She has some skin sensitivities (some bites of sorts...not fleas...not sure what), but other than that it is really really easy. Not sure what this fear-factor is of things getting "imbedded"...I guess perhaps if you are in an area that has some particularly gnarly plants, well...maybe. But that sounds a little ridiculous. Her summer coat has proven to be quite minimal and manageable.
These are the latest Sundog's Mahakala aka Betty Bear updates- almost 10mo old. 80ish lbs last checked, although it's been a month or so. Need to update.
Betty Bear is so beautiful. Do you have ticks where you live? Looks like it's pretty chilly in the beach pic, the tics probably aren't very active in the really cold weather.
Yes, there are DEFINITELY ticks. Certain times of the year more than others, obviously. So gross...about May after one hike I pulled almost 20 off of her in 3 hours I do tick/heart guard during the warm months. Did the lyme vaccine as well which, although debatable, I decided to go with just because I live in a very high prevalence area and those damn things can be so hard to find on them...figured the cost/benefit analysis was there.
But yeah, it is getting to be fall here in DC so things are cooling off and the bugs are going away. Hopefully get some good snow this winter so she can cool off a bit!
Ugh on the ticks. I do Frontline every month but I still find them on her head frequently. We hike every day so there is no getting around it. We do the Lyme vaccine as well because it's common here (near you in Howard County MD).
Beautiful dog. I see Betty Bear is wearing a pack on her? May I ask where you got it? Or what brand it is? I am having a hard time finding something like this for my dogs.
