  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

Ben from Vietnam wanna say hello!

Hi Presa Canario fans! Nice to join the forum!

Our Ben is 4 months old, 44 lbs. He's very gentle and sweet. A walk with him is much more relax than with my other dogs because he prefer keeping around us than running away like a wild house (which my Thai ridgeback puppies do).

He loyalty is sometime a problem. He loves to stay next to the door of my house even when it's raining (we made a house for him in our backyard but he doesn't care much) ==> then he got diease. But he learns the lesson now - stay in his house when it's raining.

Some people said that a molosser need fresh bone with meat 2-3 times per week for a better health. Is that true? I just feed him Royal Canin (maxi junior) for lunch and crushed chicken head&neck+rice+vegetables for breakfast and dinner <== Is that ok for him?

Welcome aboard~ Mastiffs need to be near their families as they are a guardian breed.

The picture with the child on the dog, indicates the dog does not like the child on him (ears back) and could possibly bite with hopefully a growl to warn the child to get off. I would keep all children off of the dog until you learn his body language.

You can feed him Large Breed Adult food so he will grow slow and steady to be a healthy mastiff. You can add the meat and bones but adding fresh meat and bones to a diet that is reach in grains in the dog food, can cause the dog's digestive system havoc. It's best to feed either dog food or fresh meat and bones as long as you feed dog food with grains.

Welcome to the forum.

Ben is a very handsome boy!

Thank cinnamon roll! Our Ben doesn't came from a famous kennel but we love him and his apperance so much!

Thank you so much for the instruction!

I do agree that children and dogs have a ralationship which is more complicated than what people show in movies or youtube :) I will never take my eyes off them when they play.

A friend of mine has a Cane Corso, he has the puppy (since the puppy was 6 mounths old) 01 meal like this every week:

The dog is great now. Should I copy that method of feeding?

Wow beautiful pup... I can really see where my boy looks like presa now, he just turned 6 months and is half presa and half APBT, they had the same features and build as yours at that age. He's about 60lbs now at 6 months. And still very lean.

I would not recommend feeding weight bearing bones as they tend to break the pup's teeth. You can feed your pup raw chicken bones, i.e. chicken leg quarters, chicken feet (great source of glucosamine), pork chops, etc.

Re: children. Teaching children how to handle dogs is very important to prevent dog bites. Do not allow the child on the ground with the dog as the dog will see them as a playmate. Allow the child to hand feed, walk, and train the dog so the dog sees the child as a leader and not a playmate. Do not allow children to climb on top of the dog, pull the dog's tail/ears or hit them.

Unfortunately, when a dog bites a child, the dog is either punished or put to sleep when in reality, the relationship between the child and the dog should have been established early in their relationship.

Beautiful puppy!
Love those "platform" feet... I think he's going to be a big dog!! :)

As for food... there are lots of options. Dogs are all unique, so what one does well on may not work for another (same as for different people).

If you do feed lots of raw meat, make sure you balance it to provide complete nutrition. "Whole Prey Raw" is based on 80% boneless meat + 10% bone (contained inside some of that boneless meat) + 5% liver + 5% other organ. When you mix dry food and raw food, it's harder to make sure your pup is getting complete nutrition. Not that it can't be done, it will just take more research and planning on your part.

Many dogs do have issues with mixing raw meat and dry food, too - it can cause system 'upset' (diarrhea and other problems) if the raw food gets held up behind dry food in the intestines... But, some dogs can handle both with no problems... again, depends on the dog as well as how you provide the meals.

Looking forward to seeing more pictures of your puppy!! Love those colors! :)

Your dog looks great and so does the cc, you seem to have good dogs up there , are there lots of presas in Vietnam?.

Thank you skibulls. May I see some pics of your pup? It's ok if he's still lean because I think the pup doesn't need to work out for muscle until he is 8 months old (am I right?)

Thank you! Great tips!

My little boy (2 yrs old) dares not play with the presa canario pup since the dog is 3 months, unless I play with them. The pup doesn't bite or jump up on my child but the pup alway licks and leans on him too enthusiastically hence make my boy scared.

I don't know why but my boy feel more confident with my Phu Quoc - Thai rigdeback pupies. May be because they are smaller, more ingenious, and less "embrace" than the presa canario pup?

Thank you so much! I will watch carefully his reaction.

Here is my other puppies, they are Phu Quoc - Thai ridgeback mixed, very smart and active. They both can do fetch and bring back since they was just 2-3 months old without any training (which my Presa Canario can't). May be because of their hunting instinct?

Some other presas came from a kennel in Poland. They are going born first certificated presa pupies in my country.

Presas are not popular in Viet Nam yet but I hope they will be soon because I see that presas adapt perfectly to hot and steamy wether and Vietnamese like brindle (tiger striple) color which is basis color of presa (we have an old saying about dog: "top: brindle, second: yellow, third: harlequin, forth: spotted <== I don't know why)

Please forgive the yellow light of my back patio, I'll have to take some better ones tomorrow. But they look to have the same exact build.

Like I said before he's only half presa (dad) and half APBT (mom). His father was 140lb and mom was 70lb. His coat looks just like his mom. And was 1 of 2 out of the 9 total pups with little to no brindle. Was a other reason I picked him.

His coat is fantastic! He looks like a big pink nosed fawn pitbull

Could you please take some pics of him in the open to show his build!

He's a few pics I just took. Sorry I can't get any standing photos because it was just me. And he does not leave my side.

He's very impressed boy! In those pics he look like a presa with no black mask! <3

I have the same problem with my boy. It's difficult to take him a pic!

Latest pics of my boy:

I've just bought him a house (I threw aways the door, he's free to go any where in our backyard)

Very nice.

I'm actually building my boy one that he can go in, so maybe he will stop messing up my patio. (All the sticks he eats, and everything else he chews up).

Yes sir, here is a couple recent ones. I also have a few older ones in his thread. They are also very close in age and weight. He is coming up on 6 months.
