So today was an interesting day to say the least. We live in Lake Ozark Missouri in an area called Osage Beach. The condos we live in are on the water in an upscale resort area of Four Seasons. Alot of Rich, Snobby people own alot of the condos and come down only on the weekends or during holiday and summer. This Saturday we had a home owners meeting to discuss property issues and any other thing that may arise. With the Board of Director snobs learing at my husband and I throughout the entire meeting we begun to wonder what was up. Turns out our fur baby was the main topic of conversation on the 3 page list. Other home owners had a slew of complaints all geared torwards us and our dog. The main issue was his Breed! Cane Corsos they say..the terrifying, aggressive, pitbull on steroids lookalike couldnt be appropriate for their "upscale condo resort"! These members came prepared with pages and pages of articles and worthless printoffs of how unsafe our dog is in the community. Among the few comments, Drago was compared to a loaded 44 magnum with a brain, a vicious monster breed, and a ticking timebomb ready to explode. He barks deeply and it scares us, we heard. We are afraid to walk near your condo as he could leap from your deck and attack..come on!!! We live on the second story and unless Drago has wings or is a super hero canine, i dont see him leaping off a 15 foot high balcony. Another comment was, my show poodle Buffy has developed severe anxiety because she is frightened of your dog and i believe you should pay for her vet and anxiety nedication! Are you kidding me? Drago has not attacked or threatened anyone here at our condos yet he is labled because of his large breed and internet bullshit people post. We will now be looking to buy a new home and relocate to another state. I think its rediculous that people can judge an animal by dumb ass articles and the complete nonsense written by idiots who probably dont even know the breed. Sorry guys but im so pissed and had to vent!

Omg I'm so sorry you live amongst such ignorant narrow minded people, and the poodle, ive met many and some are very aggressive,i should imagine its the owner that's making that poor dog anxious.if only we could educate people but iv learnt with owning rotties for over 25 years and now 3 cc's that you cannot change the minds of these individuals iv gave up trying. We've got 5 2week old pups here bottle feeding for a breeder and all 3 of our intact males are nanny dogs they are so gentle with them and they will help teach them as they grow I could send you a video to show them but it still wouldn't change there minds. You've got me ranting now lol. I would do as your doing get out of there. Protect drago they could make any number of lies up so I would be outside with him at all times.. and if you want my 3 boys for a visit id gladly come id love to see there faces when 4 of them would be looking at them from your balcony lol..

What is wrong with these people? I mean, are they so freaking bored they can't mind their own bussiness? As long as you keep your dog under control, i don't see what their problem is. And the thing that pisses me off more is that there are more chances of being randomly stabbed or hit by a car than being bitten by a dog. But, nooooo, the dogs are the dangerous beasts that attack the poor, unsuspecting humans.
You don't really see things like this in my country. My last dog, a rottie, although was by far the biggest dog in the neighbourhood, was everybody's sweetheart. Now i have a 6 1/2 months cc, almost 40 kg, the neighbours already love him and whenever i take him out people always comment how sweet and cute he is and want to pet him. As long as the dog is out with his owner and shows no singns of being an asshole, people don't care about his size or breed.

Sorry to learn of your dilemma. Considering moving because of your dog is truly amazing. I have moved 700 miles before because of one of my dogs. No easy solution but proves your love. You are one special owner. Hope the situation does not deteriorate further before you can move on from it.

sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, that's life. We get judged every day wether we like it or not. Some things we can't control and we will get judged. Some things we can control (how we choose to act) and we get judged by it. It's the way it works. You are being judged by your dog. Is it fair? Nope. But that's what happens when people are ignorant and don't know. Here's my advice. Don't get mad. Don't play the victim. Do what you can to show them that Drago is a great dog. That he is well trained. That he isn't a threat etc. Set up a meeting with the people and Drago so they can see for themselves. Or if you can and have the luxury to move then leave. Keep your head up. Use this as an opportunity instead of a road block.

That is really strange people... does that happen a lot in the US?
Yes, my boyfriend and daughter were stopped by our neighbor in our yard after coming home from a walk with Yogi. He demanded to know if we planned to keep "that dog" and accused us of bringing a killer dog to the neighborhood and suggested the other neighbors were also upset and we should get rid of the dog.

Now, Yogi has proven himself time and time again, and in fact said neighbor's lab has charged my dogs and has repeatedly barked at me. We later found out he had actually gone to all the other neighbors' homes and let them know we got a "pit bull" and asked them to tell us they wanted us to get it out of their neighborhood. We mind our own business, are nothing but nice to our neighbors and have zero tolerance for drama in our lives. We have not spoken to them since.

Drogo's mom, it's so frustrating when this happens - just make sure your dog is the best he can be and leave no room for accusations until you are able to move.

That should be really stressfull to be constantly "under the radar" because a problem like these may happen out of nothing.
I think that also explains the concern I see in this forum of having total control over the dogs and the way they interact with other people/dogs, among other things. It is a very different way of dog keeping that I am used to but I understand the reasoning behind it

Yep....we owe it to our dogs to have the under control. Behaving appropriately. We also owe it to our dogs that we don't act like idiots. We own large dogs. There will already be a judgement placed on them. Now add the fact that it's a Cane Corso it only adds to the stereotype. It's nothing I get upset about because I know I handle my business and carry myself like an adult. I also make sure every time Solo is with me he behaves appropriately. Those types of things go a long way. I live in a town where there is a PitBull ban. So needless to say I make sure our game is tight. I know people are watching. People are judging. That's life.

Thank you so much for all the comments. Ive calmed down quite a bit from last night lol. I just cant believe how narrow minded some people can be. We received a letter this morning that our complex review commity is trying to pass a breed/size standard for our condos. No pits, rotties, mastiffs or dobies..we actually laughed. We own our condo and are mature responsible owners. Drago is such a good boy, we have zero issues with him other than the barking when out on the balcony. If thats a crime in these condos 99 percent of the owners who be found guilty and sentenced to life lol. All dogs bark but what makes Drago different? Oh ya...hes a Cane corso on a death mission...HA! We have decided to move to Florida close to family where Drago will have plenty of room to run, play and be somewhat distant from neighbors. We found a place while on vacation with over 50 acres and we are gonna bite the bullet and move. These people are ignorant. We walked Drago proudly around the complex this morning where he was greeted by to younger children....omg! Did he attack them you ask??? Yes!!!! If you consider licking them to death and wagging tail whips lol. Glad to say two of the neighbors witnessed that and our reply to them was...heres your vicious breed, take notes..needless to say a word wasnt spoken! People need to educate themselves on animals. Forget articles online as of course you can find negative comments on any topic you search. Funny thing is, there are so many dumbasses who would rather believe black and white print then what they see with their own eyes..what the hell is wrong with this world!

Education is a double edged sword. I can
Almost guarantee you these people did their research. But googling Cane Corso Attack will only return the results that support their prejudice.
I'd be recording all the barking from neighbours dogs and also Dragos behaviour in the home and in public to show that all dos bark and that Drago is not a threat to anyone.
Maybe offer to always have him on leash etc etc.

And as and when they finally cave and ALLOW you to stay you can say "stick your stuck up community up your arse" and move away.

Oh and make sure you sell your condo to a hooker or a meth cook.

Just like any other group of ppl with an agenda they can back up anything they want. Use "scientific" studies etc to make them look smart. Just makes me shake my head.

It would be fun to call all your friends and have them pose as some really shady characters *hooker, meth chef, goth, motorcycle gange and have them come for an open house. Have them bring their dogs!

Grrrr that makes me so angry to hear about your awful neighbors. My response probably would have been that it isnt my dog you should be concerned with that its the fact I am currently thinking of several ways to end you and places to hide your body that should concern you and oh did I mention I have sociopathic tendencies and have no moral issues with killing to defend my dog who I consider family...

Want me to come over and threaten them for you? I gaurantee that Dragon wont be what had them freaked out afterwards ;-)

Grrrr

Im also happy to loan you my karma powers. The last time I wished someone dead they died within a week. :-D

Wow. And to ban all "mastiffs"?? Sure, Drago is a menace (not)... but... point them to "Sherman the Therapy Dog" on Facebook... they may change their minds. Or not... you can't cure stupid.

I don't suppose Drago would behave himself if you took him with you to one of those meetings? Maybe if they met him in person (when he's not flinging drool at them from the balcony), he could change their minds?

Personally, 50 acres in the country sounds like a MUCH better place to reside, to me. :) Hope you get that place and find some peace!
