Last Tuesday my wife and I had to put Archie down. It was very sudden. We came home Monday night and noticed a bulge below his stomach; he was also lethargic. We thought he swallowed a tennis ball due to my niece playing fetch with him five days ago. We took him to the 24hr. Vet clinic and they took x-rays. The vet said Archie had lung cancer and the tennis ball was actually a tumor and it would be best if we put him to sleep. We were devastated. I decided to take Archie home with us that night and told the vet that I'd bring him in Wed. We took him home and we all slept in the livingroom together. Archie slept in til noon the nex day and was struggling to breathe. As a result, my wife and I decided to take him in. I'm 35 yrs. old and been through alot s... and that was the worse day of my life. Archie was truly my bestfriend. I'm going to tell you guys about Archie and what kind of dog he was. My wife and I rescued Archie from the Riverside County Animal Shelter. Archie was seven years old (probably older). My wife and I went to the shelter because we were feeling down about "typical life sh.." and wanted to volunteer. We walked out of there instead with an American Bulldog (Johnson type), lol. Archie was perfect. He ws emaciated when we got him 60lbs. Within two months he was 90lbs. He was patient with Miel and our little lapdog. He was incredibly affectionate and always wanted to please my wife and I. He was also an excellent gaurd too (Dogman#1, you'll love this!). One time my niece's father came into the yard at night and didn't wait for me at the gait. Archie was in the mudroom and started growling. Jose (nieces Dad) started knocking at the door. I told him to wait outside the door until Archie calmed down. Archie calmed down and was in the sit position. I opened the door and told Jose to wait. Jose ignored me and abruptly entered the mudroom and opened his arms towards me (Jose's religious and wanted to hug me). Archie didn't know what the F... was going on and jumped into the air lunging for his shoulder with jaws chomping. Jose ran away and I slammed the door. Miel came into the mudroom and it was gangbusters. My dogs performed. I locked the both of them in the mudroom and checked on Jose. Jose was fine, lol. We miss him so much. My wife and I had him cremated so that he'll always be with us. I read the posts about other members losing their dogs and it really helped. It's nice knowing that there's people out there that see love their dogs like family members; not just "organic pieces of property" (remember that crazy a..). I'm attaching some pics of Archie. He'll be missed!
